BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After leading Campbell to three-straight wins, Marthinus Visser has been named Choice Hotels Big South Conference men's tennis player of the week.

A junior from Cape Town, South Africa, Visser ran his singles and doubles win streaks to 7-straight matches.  He posted a 2-0 record at No.-2 singles and 2-0 at No.-3 doubles with partner Jean-Marc Krone in Campbell victories over Belmont (5-1) and Bethune-Cookman (5-2).

Visser owns the team's best singles record (8-2) in dual matches, including a 7-0 mark at No.-2.  He and Krone are 7-1 in doubles play.

"This honor is certainly well-deserved," said Campbell head coach David Johnson "Marthinus has the best record on the team and has not lost a match outdoors.  He has accounted himself very well and has won some 3-set matches, overcome deficits, and provided leadership and stability for us.  As we enter the conference season we certainly hope he can sustain it for his benefit and certainly for the team's."

The Camels went 3-0 on their spring break road swing, improving to 6-4 on the year (1-0 vs. the Big South).  Campbell has not lost a doubles match over the last four outings.

Weather permitting, the Camels return to action Wednesday in a 2 p.m. start at No.-46 Elon.  The Phoenix (8-3) have won four-straight matches, most recently a 6-1 triumph Sunday over Southern Conference rival Davidson.

Following Wednesday's match, the Camels host Big South rival Longwood Saturday at 1 p.m.  The Lancers (1-10, 0-1) dropped a 7-0 decision Monday at 11th-ranked North Carolina.

Visser's selection marks the second time this year a Camel has been named men's tennis player of the week.  Fernando Guillen won the award Feb. 24.
