LYNCHBURG, Va. – Campbell powered a total of five home runs to defeat Liberty 9-8, 5-2 in doubleheader action Friday at Liberty Softball Field.
Julia Callicutt earned the win in relief in game one. She pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (two earned) on three hits, while walking one and striking out a season high seven. The victory for Callicutt evens her record at 2-2 and pushes Campbell to an overall 15-13, (2-0) mark.
Annah Jo Brittingham was charged with the loss. She pitched 5.1 innings, gaving up nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits, while walking four and striking out a pair. The loss for Brittingham drops her to 1-11 on the season and Liberty to 2-20, (0-2) on the year.
The Camels were led by Courtney Klingler, who was two-for-three with a homerun, driving in two. Milly Martinet was two-for-four, both hits being home runs and drove in four. Olivia Scarborough was three-for-four with three runs batted in.
Liberty's Katie Zavodny went three-for-four with three runs batted in. Megan Robinson and Hanna Nichols each added two hits apiece for LU.
Campbell went scoreless in its half of the first inning. LU scored four runs in its half of the first. Megan Robinson singled to left field, plating Katie Zavodny who tripled to lead off the game. Kelby Allen hit a two-run home run driving in Robinson. The next batter, Sammi Shivock homered giving LU a 4-0 lead.

Raven Lee lead off the top of third inning with a walk. Ericka Nesbitt doubled, scoring pinch runner Erica Johnson from second. LU's Hanna Nichols answered with a home run to left field to give LU a 6-1 lead.
Stephanie Jones, Brittany Bruce, and Lee each drew walks to load the bases with no outs. Olivia Scarborough singled off of the third base bag, scoring Jones and Bruce. Campbell cut the Liberty lead to 6-3.
Klingler singled up the middle to start the fifth inning rally. Martinet then homered to left field plating Klingler and herself. Olivia Scarborough doubled down the left field line to plate Lee to tie the game 6-6.
Kerstine Womack doubled to the centerfield fence. Klingler drove a single up the middle to score Womack. Martinet stepped to the plate and drove another ball over the wall to give CU a 9-6 lead.
Liberty scratched across two runs in the bottom of the six on a single by Zavodny, which drove in two Flames.
Callicutt induced two groundballs and a pop out to close out the victory for Campbell.
Game 2
Olivia Scarborough, Stephanie Jones, and Courtney Klingler each hit home runs to lead Campbell to a 5-2 victory over Liberty in the second game of the doubleheader.
Courtney Roberts pitched a complete game and earned the victory for the Camels. Roberts scattered six hits, allowing two runs (two earned) while striking out two. The win for Roberts evens her record at 4-4 on the year and pushes CU's overall record to 16-13.
Alyssa Dimartino is charged with the loss for LU. She pitched 6.1 innings allowing four runs (four earned) on 10 hits, while striking out a pair and walking a pair. Dimartino drops to 1-8 on the year and Liberty falls to 2-20 on the season.
Bailey Bjorson and Stephanie Jones led the offensive attack for Campbell. Bjorson was two-for-three with two RBI. Jones went three-for-four, with a home run to drive in two runs.
Brittany Bruce and Olivia Scarborough drew walks with one out in the top of the second. Bailey Bjorson singled up the middle to plate Bruce. Liberty scored a run via an error to even the game at one going to the third.
Liberty's Holly Seiz doubled down the left field line to score Sammi Shivock and give LU a 2-1 lead.
Olivia Scarborough stepped to the plate with one out in the sixth and drove a ball opposite field over the right field fence to tie the game 2-2.
Campbell took the lead 3-2 on a Klingler home run to left field. Milly Martinet singled up the middle, and then Jones hit a two run home run pushing the lead to 5-2. Liberty went scoreless in its half of the seventh.
Campbell goes for the three game sweep Saturday at 1 p.m.
