LYNCHBURG, Va. – Campbell homered three times in an 8-4 victory over Liberty, Saturday to sweep a three game series.
Courtney Roberts pitched two innings of relief to earn the win. She scattered three hits, allowing one earned run and struck out one. Katie Baker earned a save pitching two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Roberts' record moves to 5-4 on the year, and CU's record to 17-13.
Alyssa Dimartino was charged with the loss for the Flames. She pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned). Dimartino falls to 1-9 on the year and LU drops to 2-21.
Campbell was led offensively by Milly Martinet, who was two-for-two with a walk and two runs batted in. Jordan Clarke was two-for-four with two RBI. Olivia Scarborough went two-for-four with a run and three runs batted in.
The Flames were led at the plate by Katie Zavodny, who went two-for-four.
In the top of the first, Ericka Nesbitt reached via a free pass. Martinet drove a sacrifice fly to left field plating Nesbitt. Liberty answered with two runs of its own. Kelby Allen doubled scoring Megan Robinson, who reached via an error. Sammi Shivock singled up the middle to plate Allen putting LU up 2-1.
Robinson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third giving LU a 3-1 victory.
Martinet homered to left field to cut the LU lead to 3-2. Jordan Clarke singled up the middle scoring pinch runner Erica Johnson and Bailey Bjorson giving Campbell a 4-3 victory. The Flames Hanna Nichols homered to left field to even the game at 4-4.
Courtney Klingler homered in the top of the fifth giving CU a 5-4 lead.
Klingler was hit by a pitch to lead the Camel seventh off. Martinet was intentionally walked. Scarborough homered to left field to give CU an 8-4 lead.
Baker struck out two and induced a ground ball to secure the three game sweep of Liberty.
Campbell travels to Boone to take on Appalachian State in a doubleheader Tuesday at 4 p.m.
