WILMINGTON, N.C. – Campbell finished sixth at the Seahawk Intercollegiate after Monday's final round of the men's golf tournament was cancelled due to rain.
Freshman Gaston Bertinotti logged his first top-10 individual finish with an eighth-place tie (72-71—143) on the par-72, 6761-yard Country Club of Landfall Nicklaus Pines & Ocean course. His one-under-par 71 in the second round was the best of his collegiate career.
Will Starke of South Carolina shot a tournament 36-hole record 7-under-par 137 (64-73) to earn medalist honors by one stroke over Davidson's Sam Echikson (64-74—138). South Carolina claimed team honors at 16-under 560 (273-287), outdistancing runner-up East Tennessee State (279-300—579) by 19 strokes.
Louisville (278-303—581) and Ohio State (282-299—581) tied for third, while Davidson was fifth (278-308—586) and Campbell sixth (286-301—587). Host UNC Wilmington finished seventh (287-309—596), one stroke ahead of Wisconsin (292-305—597) in the 13-school field.
Campbell defeated No.-75 East Carolina (298-312—610), which finished 11th, by 23 strokes.
Campbell freshman Craig Hornberger (70-75—145) and sophomore Mikko Lehtovuori (72-73—145) tied for 13th-place, while Amanjyot Singh finished 47th (72-82—154) and Grant Houser 76th (78-89—167).
Bertinotti tied with Logan Jones of Ohio State for the best par-5 scoring (5-under) in the 78-player field. A native of Cordoba, Argentina, Bertinotti also made 23 pars and also played the par-4 holes at 3-over.
Hornberger made 30 pars in the 36-hole event, best in the field, and played the par-4s even. Lehtovuori was even on the par-3 holes, 3-over on the par-4 layouts and played the par-5s at 2-under.
Campbell continues its spring schedule Apr. 11-12 at the River Landing Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina in Wallace, N.C.
