BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Amelie Reichart, Ewa Telenga and Tamara Stanic recorded straight sets victories in singles and Campbell defeated Charlotte 4-3 Friday afternoon in women's action at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
Campbell (10-5) won its fifth-straight match after securing the doubles point and the first three singles matches. Charlotte (4-9) earned its points through a straight-sets win at No. 4 by Macy Vonderschmidt and super-tiebreaker decisions at the top two singles positions by Victoria Pahlett and Lisa Grosselius.
Playing its second match in as many days, Campbell earned the doubles points through victories at the top two positions. Natasha Afridi and Stanic ran their doubles mark to 10-4 with an 8-3 win over Pahlett and Natsuko Takayanagi at the top position.
Karolina Chernaya and Claudia Ortiz defeated Vonderschmidt and Jessica Perez 8-4 at the second position. Ana Maria Ortiz and Telenga led 7-4 in the third doubles match, that was halted after the point was decided.
Reichart was the first off the courts in singles play thanks to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Perez at the fifth position. The Campbell freshman improved to 9-4 on the spring, 9-3 in the fifth spot. Telenga won 6-1, 6-1 over Briana Bodner at No.-6, leaving the Camels just one point from the dual victory.
Stanic won her team-leading 13th singles match of the spring in dramatic fashion. The junior from Montenegro trailed 4-1 in the first set against Takayanagi before rallying to win 5-straight games to claim a 6-4 triumph.
In the second set, Takayanagi served for the set at 5-3 before Stanic broke her, then held to level the score at 5-games all. Stanic again broke the Charlotte junior and won a fourth-straight game by serving out the set to improve to 13-1 on the spring and claim the decisive fourth team point of the day.
The Camels (3-1 Big South) continue a busy week when they return to conference action Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. start against Presbyterian at the Nisbet Center.
