Softball defeats Radford 5-4 to take series

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Milly Martinet's three run home run lead Campbell to a 5-4 victory over Radford Saturday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Katie Baker earned the win for Campbell pitching five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out two. Baker's win moves her to 8-5 on the season and the Camels to 19-14, (5-1).

Radford's Rachel Walters is charged with the loss. She pitched three innings allowing four runs (three earned), striking out five and walking three.  Walter's record drops to 4-7 on the year, and Radford falls to 6-16, (1-2).

The Camels were led offensively by Kerstine Womack, who was three-for-three with a run scored and an RBI. Martinet went one-for-three with a home run driving in three.

Raford was led at the plate by Hayley Tabora and Whitney Davis.  Hayley Tabora was one-for-three with a solo home run while Whitney Davis was one-for-three with a triple driving in two runs. 

The game was scoreless through two and a half innings.  Womack doubled with one out in the bottom of the third and Courtney Klingler followed with a walk to put runners at first and second.  Martinet hit her thirteenth home run of the season plating Womack and Klingler to give CU a 3-0 lead.

Hayley Tabora homered for Radford in the top of the fourth to cut the Campbell lead to 3-1.  Bailey Bjorson singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth for CU.  Brittany Bruce hit a line drive triple just inside the right field foul line to plate pinch runner Jessica Anderson. Womack singled to the second baseman scoring Bruce to give CU a 5-1 lead.

The Highlanders Jessie Hutchens singled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. Julie Gardner followed with a walk.  Whitney Davis tripled down the right field line plating Hutchens and Gardner. Radford added another run via an error to cut Campbell's lead to 5-4.

Julia Callicutt entered the game in relief of Baker in the sixth inning.  Callicutt struck out six Highlanders in two innings of work to record her first save of the season. 

The Camels continue Big South action in a three game midweek series with Coastal Carolina.  A doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
