Reichart named Big South freshman of the week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After going 3-0 in singles play, Amelie Reichart of Campbell University has been named Big South Conference The Crons Brand women's tennis freshman of the week.  A native of Ismaning, Germany, Reichart helped Campbell extend its win streak to six matches.

She started a three-matches-in-three-days stretch with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Radford's Gisela Garcia at last Thursday.  Reichart downed Charlotte's Jessica Perez (6-4, 6-1) on Friday and rounded out the week Saturday by defeating Presbyterian's Caroline deLoach 6-0, 6-1.

Since joining the program in January, Reichart owns a 10-4 record in singles play, 3-2 against Big South competition, and has won her last four outings.

"Amelie has been playing well and for the most part under the radar," said Campbell head coach David Johnson.  "She just wins and she is getting better as the season has progressed.  I am glad she received this recognition."

Campbell (11-5, 4-1 Big South) returns to action Thursday at home in a 3 p.m. start against Coastal Carolina (13-2, 1-1).  The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed by rain.  CU then travels Saturday to Winthrop, which carries a No.-63 national ranking with a 10-3 overall and 4-0 Big South record into this week's play.

Reichart's selection marks the third time a Camel has received weekly women's tennis honors this year.  Karolina Chernaya was named Big South player of the week Jan 21, while Tamara Stanic won the award Mar. 11.
