BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coastal defeated Campbell 8-1 in the first game of the doubleheader behind Kiana Quolas four hit pitching performance, while CU took the second game 3-2, powered by a Courtney Klingler two run home run.

Coastal was led by Quolas at the plate, who was 1-for-3 with a two run home run. Kory Hayden added a hit and drove in one for the Chanticleers.

Coastal Carolina Bri Chiusano led off the game with a walk and was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Quolas.  Chisuano swiped third on the next pitch and scored via a wild pitch giving Coastal a 1-0 lead.  Coastal Carolina's Beth Kassuhn robbed a would be two-run home run off of the bat of Klingler in the bottom half of the first to keep the score 1-0 Coastal.

Campbell answered with a run in the home half of the second.  Churchill singled with two outs in the inning.  Olivia Scarborough hit a high fly ball to left field and the Chanticleer outfielder misplayed the ball scoring Churchill all the way from first. The game was tied 1-1 going into the third.

In the top of the third Quolas stepped to the plate for Coastal with a runner on third base and drove a ball over the left field fence, putting Chanticleers up 3-1.

Coastal added runs in each of the next four innings to secure an 8-1 victory.

Game 2

Campbell defeated Coastal Carolina 3-2 in the second game of the doubleheader behind a complete game effort by Courtney Roberts and a two run home run by Klingler.

CU's Courtney Roberts allowed two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out five and issuing four free passes.  The win for Roberts pushes her to 6-4 on the year, and Campbell to a 20-15 and 5-2 in the Big South.

The Chanticleers' Ashley Bagwell took the loss, pitching six innings allowing five hits, three earned runs, while walking a pair and striking out seven. The loss drops Coastal to 21-10 and 4-1 in league play, dropping Bagwell to 7-5 overall.

Klingler led the Camels at the plate going 1-for-3 with the go-ahead two run home run in the bottom of the sixth.  Kerstine Womack, Raven Lee, Martinet and Churchill each added a hit in three plate appearances.

Coastal was led offensively by Quolas who was 3-for-4 and Amanda Daneker who added two hits in four attempts.

The Chanticleers' Quolas singled with one out, but CU's Roberts struck out a batter and induced pop out to third base to end the threat.  Campbell tallied a run on a single by Milly Martinet down the left field line scoring Bruce, who walked to lead off the game.  CU led 1-0 going to the second inning.

Coastal Carolina had runners on in each of the next four innings, but Roberts worked out of each inning without a blemish keeping the Campbell lead at 1-0.

The Chanticleers evened the game at one a piece in the top of the sixth inning.  Bri Chiusano drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Brooke Donavan breaking up the bid for the shut out. Courtney Roberts induced another pop out to get out of a bases loaded jam.

Womack singled to lead off the sixth inning for Campbell.  Klingler hit the first pitch of her at-bat over the centerfield fence to give CU a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, CCU's Kory Hayden homered on the second pitch of her at-bat to cut the Camels lead to 3-2.  CU's Roberts issued a free pass with no one out in the inning.  Roberts retired three straight Chanticleers on two pop ups and a ground out to secure the 3-2 victory for Campbell.

The rubber game of the three game set is slated for 4 p.m. Thursday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
