Camels fall to Coastal in series finale

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coastal Carolina defeated Campbell 5-0 in the final game of the three game series, Thursday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. Coastal Carolina homered three times accounting for four of the five runs scored in the game.

Coastal Carolina's Kiana Quolas pitched a complete game shutout allowing four hits, striking out seven and walking two. Quolas improves to 15-4 on the season and Coastal goes to 22-10 overall and 5-1 in the Big South.

Katie Baker is charged with the loss for CU. She pitched three innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out two. Baker falls to 8-7 on the year and the Camels drop to 20-16 overall and 6-3 in the Big South.

Jordan Clarke led Campbell at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Olivia Scarborough and Raven Lee each added singles in the game.

Amanda Daneker led the Chanticleers offensively going 2-for-3, one of her two hits being a two-run home run. Sara Rasley and Quolas each added solo home runs for Coastal Carolina.

Quolas stepped to the plate with one out in the top of the first inning and drove a ball over the left field fence to give Coastal a 1-0 lead. Baker induced two ground outs to hold Coastal to a 1-0 lead going to the bottom of the frame. Campbell went in order in the home half of the first.

Coastal manufactured a run on one hit in the top of the third extending its lead to 2-0. Scarborough led off the bottom of the third with a single to right field. Clarke followed with a single of her own. Pinch runner Maggie Christopher and Clarke were stranded at first and second to end the inning.

Kory Hayden singled with one out in the Coastal fifth inning.  Daneker homered to centerfield driving in Hayden and extending the Coastal lead to 4-0. 

Coastal added another run via a long ball by Sara Rasley in the sixth inning pushing its lead to 5-0. Quolas induced a pop out and two groundouts to secure the 5-0 victory for Coastal.

Campbell travels to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb in a three game series this weekend. The first game of the series is slated for 4 p.m. Saturday.
