STOCKBRIDGE, GA. – Kaylin Yost is tied for fifth place individually and Campbell is tied for second in the team standings after Sunday's first round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate women's golf tournament.
Yost shot a 2-over-par 74 on the par-72, 6164-yard Eagle's Landing Country Club, former site of the LPGA Tour Chick-Fil-A event. Freshman Nadine White and junior Lisbeth Brooks are tied for 16th at 4-over 76, while sophomore Tahnia Ravnjak is tied for 27th (78). Freshman Louise Latorre shot 83 and is tied for 62nd in the 90-player field.
Host Georgia State leads the 16-team event at 12-over-par 300, four strokes ahead of Campbell (304) and Troy (304). Kennesaw State is fourth (305) and Old Dominion fifth (307) heading into Monday's second round.
Campbell will be paired with Georgia State and Troy Monday and will start from the first tee at 9:30 a.m.
Playing as an individual, Amira Alexander of Georgia took the first-round lead with a one-under 71. Maria Palacios of Georgia State was second at even-par 72, followed by Sofie Kvarnstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock and Kaew Preamcheun of Kennesaw State at one-over-73.
Yost is in a four-way tie for fifth with Anne Kathrin Albrecht of Jacksonville State, Fatima Fern Cano of Troy and Gemma Fuster of Old Dominion.
A senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who leads the Big South Conference in stroke average (73.63), Yost made four birdies Sunday and played the par-four holes even, both of which tied for third in the field. Brooks tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring (-3) and made seven birdies (T7th).
White played the par-4 holes at one-over (T6th), while Ravnjak had 11 pars (T13th).
The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
