STOCKBRIDGE, GA. – Kaylin Yost matched her career low round with a 5-under 67 to move into the individual lead and Campbell is two strokes off the team pace after Monday's second round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.
A senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Yost made 6 birdies on the former site of the LPGA Tour's Chick-Fil-A event and sits at 3-under 141 (74-67), one shot ahead of Georgia State's Maria Palacios (72-70—142) entering Tuesday's final round.
Host Georgia State was even par as a team Monday (300-288—588), while the Camels shot the low round of the tourney (304-286—590) and hold a three-stroke edge over Troy (304-289—593). Middle Tennessee (312-289—601) is fourth and Kennesaw State (305-301—606) fifth in the 16-school event.
Amira Alexander of Georgia (71-73—144) and Kaew Preamchuen of Kennesaw State (73-71—144) are tied for third and Sofie Kvarnstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock (73-72—145) is fifth after 36 holes.
Yost had 11 pars Monday, while the only blemish on her scorecard was a bogey on the par-four 14th hole. Nevertheless, she matched the 67 she shot at the 2012 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational and at the 2012 Golfweek Conference Challenge.
She leads the 90-golfer field with 10 birdies through 36 holes and is tied for the lead by playing the par-5 holes at 5-under. Yost's 67 is one stroke off the school 18-hole record 66 set by Michelle Koh in 2010 and equaled by Tahnia Ravnjak last fall at the Golfweek Program Challenge.
Junior Lisbeth Brooks played the final 10 holes three-under and shot an even-par 72 Monday on the 6164-yard Eagle's Landing layout. She is tied for 12th at 4-over 148 (76-72). Through two rounds, Brooks stands fifth in the field in par-5 scoring (-3) and is 8th on the par 4 holes (+2).
Freshman Nadine White is tied for 23rd at 8-over 152 after shooting consecutive 76s. She is tied for fifth in par-3 scoring (even). Fellow freshman Louise Latorre shot a collegiate career-low 71 Monday and moved up to a tie for 31st (83-71—154) with sophomore Tahnia Ravnjak (78-76—154).
Latorre eagled the par-5 throw hole and birdied the par-five 18th to surpass the 72 she shot at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.
The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring is available on-line at Golfstat.com.
