HOOVER, ALA. – With three golfers among the top 15 individuals, Campbell finished third in the team standings after Tuesday's final round of the Samford Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.
Sophomore Mikko Lehtovuori earned his third top-10 individual showing this year with a fifth-place tie after shooting 75-75-72—222 on the par-72, 7001-yard Hoover Country Club layout. The native of Lahti, Finland had 9 birdies and 34 pars in the 54-hole event.
Freshman Gaston Bertinotti (77-77-73—227), who also made 9 birdies, and junior Grant Houser (80-76-71—227) tied for 15th on the individual leader board. Houser's final round score was his best of the season.
Medalist Paul Dunne of UAB (69-76-71—216) was the lone golfer in the 89-player field to finish at even par. Ashton Van Horne of Belmont (74-73-74—221), Lane Hulse of South Alabama (74-74-73—221) and Thomas Sutton of UAB (71-77-73—221) shared runner-up honors.
South Alabama (306-294-291—891) won the 16-team tournament by two strokes over Alabama-Birmingham (29-309-294—893). Campbell (315-304-287—906) was third, six strokes better than fourth-place Belmont (314-304-294—912).
Campbell freshman Craig Hornberger tied for 47th (83-83-71—237), while senior Amanjyot Singh tied for 65th (91-76-75—242). Playing as an individual, sophomore Jeremy Milton tied for 59th (84-78-79—241).
The Camels return to action next Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 10-11) in the Bash at the Beach at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
