KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Brooke Red pitched six innings of one-hit softball to lead Georgia Southern to a 9-0 victory over Campbell at the Tennessee Invitational.
Carly Hansis homered in the sixth inning leading Georgia Southern to a 4-2 victory over Campbell in the final game of the Inivtational.
Brooke Red allowed one hit and walked three, while striking out 10. Red earned the victory, putting her record at 6-2, and the Eagles to a 15-5 overall mark.
Katie Baker took the loss for CU pitching 3.2 innings. She allowed three hits, five runs (five earned) while walking three and striking out four. The loss evens Baker's record to 5-5 on the season, and Campbell's to 13-10 overall.
Ericka Nesbitt went one-for-three in the game leading Campbell offensively.
The Eagles were led by Kaitlyn Johnson, who went one-for-four at the plate driving in two. Breanna McLendon going one-for-three driving in two runs.
Georgia Southern broke the 0-0 tie in the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits in the inning.
The Eagles added four more runs in the top of the seventh on three hits. The Eagles took a 9-0 lead, which was the final score.
Game 2
Hope Klicker pitched a complete game, allowing two runs (two earned) on four hits, walking one and striking out three. The win for Klicker gives her a record of 7-7 on the season, and the Cougars a 14-7 overall mark.
Courtney Roberts took the loss for Campbell. She allowed four runs (three earned), on five hits, while striking out two and walking one. Roberts falls to 3-4 on the season and Campbell drops to 13-12 on the year.
Campbell was paced by Courtney Klingler, who went two-for- three with a home run. Milly Martinet went one-for-two at the plate with a single and a walk.
The Cougars were led by Carly Hansis at the plate, who was one-for-two with a two run home run.
The game was scoreless going to the top of the second inning. Courtney Klingler homered to left field to give CU a 1-0 lead. College of Charleston answered with two runs of its own. Chandler Frisbie doubled down the left field line scoring two, which gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning Campbell rallied to push across a run. Martinet singled and was pinch run for by Jessica Anderson. Klingler then doubled to put runners at second and third with one out. Olivia Scarborough drove in Anderson on a groundout evening the game, 2-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, College of Charleston's Carly Hansis hit a two run home run to left field. The home run gave College of Charleston a 4-2 lead.
CU travels to North Carolina Tuesday, March 11 at 5 p.m. Campbell returns to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium Wednesday, March 12 to take on Syracuse at 5 p.m.
