Camels fall at Longwood 16-8

FARMVILLE, VA. – Cloey Henchcliffe notched a season-high four points as Campbell fell 16-8 to Longwood on Sunday. The Lancers used four and five-goal runs to take the win at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

Henchcliffe scored 36 seconds after the opening draw to put the Camels (5-7, 1-4) ahead 1-0, the only lead CU held the entire game.

The Lancers (7-7, 4-0) answered with four straight goals in the following four minutes to go up 4-1 less than six minutes into the contest.

Scoring her second of the day, Henchcliffe broke the Longwood run with 24:06 left on the clock to close the lead to three, 4-2.

The teams traded a goal apiece, as Maddy Dolinar  put one in for CU, and the score held 5-3 in favor of the Lancers with 17:19 before the intermission.

Longwood then used a 12-minute, five-goal sprint to take the 10-3 lead, its largest of the half with 4:06 remaining in the opening segment.

Henchcliffe notched her final goal of the game 95 ticks before the break off a free position shot, and the Lancers took the 10-4 lead into the locker room.

The Lancers opened the second period with a 3-0 sprint over the first 10:38 to widen their lead, 13-4, their largest of the match.

Erica Hitch netted the Camels' fifth goal with 19:01 to go. In the ensuing time, the teams continued to trade goals, three each, Dolinar scored once and Taelar Errington tacked on twofor the Camels, who fell 16-8.

Goalkeeper Brittany Kincer tallied five saves and 14 goals against in 41 minutes. Merredith Bechler registered four saves and two goals against in the final 19 minutes of the game.

Lancer keeper Christian Acker stopped 15 Camel shots on the day with eight goals against.

Longwood had the edge on shots (32-26) and draw controls (14-11), while Campbell had the advantage on ground balls (21-7) and turnovers (15-10).

The Camels return home Wednesday in their final home game of the regular season, hosting St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
