BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will be the fourth-seeded school in the Big South Conference women's tennis championships this week at Boiling Springs, N.C.
The Camels (13-8, 6-3 Big South) will meet fifth seed Coastal Carolina (17-6, 5-4) Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to most likely meet regular season champ Charleston Southern in Wednesday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal.
Campbell has lost its last two matches in league play, but both came against nationally-ranked foes – No.-56 Winthrop Friday and No.-73 Charleston Southern Sunday.
CU defeated Coastal 4-3 on Mar. 27 in Buies Creek. The Camels won the doubles point, then claimed the dual victory after straight-sets wins from Karolina Chernaya, Ana Maria Ortiz and Amelie Reichart.
Chernaya enters the Big South event with a 75-30 career singles record, just three shy of seventh place on Campbell's all-time victories list. She owns a 23-7 overall record this season, including a 16-4 mark in dual matches and 8-1 record at No.-1 against Big South opponents.
Junior Tamara Stanic is 23-6 this year, 17-3 in duals and 7-2 vs. Big South foes.
The 2014 Big South Women's Tennis Championship begins Monday, April 14 with two matches, and concludes with the Championship contest on Thursday, April 17 in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Big South's tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The Big South Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
