NINETY SIX. S.C. – With Campbell individuals holding down the top four places on the individual leader board, the Fighting Camels own a 27-stroke advantage after 36 holes of the Big South Conference women's golf championship.
Louise Latorre and Tahnia Ravnjak are tied for the individual lead at 3-under-par; Kaylin Yost is third at 2-under and Lisbeth Brooks fourth at 1-under heading into Tuesday's final round at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.
The 53rd-ranked and top-seeded Camels are 9-under as a team (278-289—567), while second-place Coastal Carolina is 18-over (297-297—594). High Point (301-304—605) is in third place in the 9-team field. The winner will receive the Big South's automatic berth into the NCAA regionals.
One day after setting tournament and school records for lowest 18-hole score, the Camels followed up with the fourth-lowest round in Big South Championship history to establish new 36-hole tourney and CU marks.
Ravnjak (72-69—141) was one of only two players in the 45-golfer field to shoot in red numbers Monday with the day's low round (69). A sophomore from Cordeaux Heights, Australia, Ravnjak made five birdies and 11 pars over the tournament's second 18 holes. Through two rounds, she has 25 pars (tied for third in the field) and 7 birdies (tied for third), while playing the par-3 holes one-under (2nd) and par-5 layouts three-under (2nd).
Latorre (68-73—141) followed Sunday's career-low and tournament record-tying round with a solid, one-over 73 Monday. The freshman from Pau, France made 13 pars, 2 birdies and played the final 12 holes 1-under. Latorre leads the event in par-3 scoring (-2) and is tied with Yost for the lead with 9 birdies.
A senior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Yost (69-73—142) recorded three birdies on Monday and leads the field in par-4 scoring (-2). Like Latorre, Yost has 21 pars and 9 birdies through 36 holes. The two-time Big South player of the year has played the par-5 holes 1-under and is 1-over on the par-3 layouts.
Brooks (69-74—143) is one stroke behind Yost after a 2-birdie round where she played the final 8 holes one-under-par. A junior from Waunakee, Wis., Brooks has 7 birdies and 23 pars through 36 holes and has played the par-3 and par-4 holes even, while shooting 1-under on the par-5 layouts.
Freshman Nadine White (74-78—152) is tied for 13th-place at 8-over par. The product of Brisbane, Australia has made 25 pars (tied for 3rd in the event), while playing the par-5 holes even and the par-3s one-over.
The lone player in the tournament's top five not wearing Orange and Black is fifth place Frida Castillo of Coastal Carolina (73-71—144).
"It was just a solid performance, there wasn't a lot of glamour today," said Campbell head coach John Crooks. "They played sound, fundamental golf. I think it's amazing that we have people in the top four positions. That's impressive to me."
Campbell will be paired with Coastal Carolina and High Point in Tuesday's final round, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
