CU moves up to 8th place after 36 holes of NCAA East Regional

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – Campbell tied a school record for lowest round in post-season play and is in 8th place following Friday's second day of the NCAA East Regional women's golf championship at SouthWood Golf Club.

The Camels shot a 2-over-par 290 and are 5-over (291-290—581) for the championship, which concludes Saturday.  The top eight teams and two individuals not on qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-23 at Tulsa (Okla.) Country Club.

"They played very well in spurts," said head coach John Crooks.  "All five are swinging well and thinking well.  The golf course got windy for a period of time and it just so happened that we were playing the hardest holes in the most wind.    Certainly one or two putts going in could have made a difference.  All in all, I'm very pleased with their efforts.  All five are doing everything they can for us to qualify for the national championship."

Tahnia Ravnjak shot a 3-under-par 69 and moved into a tie for 8th place on the individual leader board at 2-under 142 (73-69).  She is just three strokes behind individual leader Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford (68-71—139).

A sophomore from Cordeaux Heights, Australia, Ravnjak made the turn at one-over, then eagled the par-five 10th hole.  She added birdies on 11 and 12 before a bogey on 13. However, the Big South Conference runner-up birdied the par-four 15th and tied a school individual record for lowest round in NCAA competition.  Sharon O'Neill shot 69 at the 2000 East Regional, a number matched by Michelle Koh at the 2012 East Regional.

Ravnjak set a new school 36-hole record in regional play (73-69—142), three strokes better than O'Neill's total in 2000 (76-69—145).  She has played the par 4s at 1-under and is even on the par-3 layouts on the par-72, 6257-yard SouthWood layout.

Lisbeth Brooks made three birdies and 12 pars Friday to produce the second-best 36-hole tally (71-72—143) in Campbell NCAA post-season history.  A junior from Waunakee, Wis., Brooks is tied for 15th place in the 126-golfer field.  She has made 8 birdies through two rounds, tied for 7th in the field, while playing the par-4 holes at 2-under.

Yost shot a two-over 74 and is three-over for the tournament (73-74—145) following a three-birdie round.  Freshman Louise Latorre shot 75, while fellow frosh Nadine White recorded a 78.

No.-12 Vanderbilt is 10-under-par (277-289—566 and owns a 6-stroke lead over second-ranked Duke (284-288—572).  No.-5 South Carolina (291-283—574) and No.-34 Tulane (280-294—574) and tied for third, one stroke ahead of No.-20 Virginia (283-292—575).  Eighth-ranked Stanford is sixth (291-286—577), three strokes in front of No.-26 North Carolina State (286-294—580)

Ranked No.-49 in this week's Golfstat rating, Campbell (291-290—581) holds a four-stroke edge over 30th-ranked and host Florida State (290-295—585).  No.-14 Pepperdine (290-297—587) is 10th in the 24-school field.  Campbell held at least an 11-stroke edge over its first two day playing partners East Carolina (297-295—592) and Georgia (298-296—594).

Campbell will be paired with NC State and Florida State for Saturday's final round and start from the first tee at 7:45 a.m.
