BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell hurler Ryan Thompson added All-America plaudits from Baseball American and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, making third team at relief pitcher on both lists.
Thompson already garnered a Third Team Louisville Slugger All-American nod, becoming the first Camel to earn All-America honors in multiple seasons, also picking up honors last season from Louisville Slugger (Second Team) and the ABCA (Third Team) while leading the nation in ERA with a 0.88.
Thompson was selected by the Houston Astros with the first pick of the 23rd round in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. Houston made Thompson the 676th pick on day three of the MLB Draft after a decorated two-year career with the Camels.
In 2014, Thompson fashioned a 1.33 ERA and a 7-2 record with 17 saves. He added 87 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched across 39 appearances.
He was named the Big South Conference Tournament's MVP, pitching in all five of Campbell's tournament wins with a 1-0 mark and three saves in nine scoreless innings.
Thompson was also a First Team All-Big South performer in 2014 after earning Big South Pitcher of the Year honors in 2013.
Thompson is one of four Campbell All-Americans in the last three seasons, along with Michael Felton (2012), Ben McQuown (2013) and Brent Graham (2013).
Campbell finished the 2014 season with a 41-21 overall record, tying for the second-most wins in school history. The Camels claimed the Big South Tournament Championship in Rock Hill, S.C., earning the school's second NCAA Regional berth.
In the Columbia Regional, No. 4 seed CU picked up its first-ever NCAA Regional win, knocking off third-seeded Old Dominion 4-1 in 12 innings.
Campbell has won 131 games over the last three years, posting three consecutive 40-plus win seasons.
