Campbell Women's Basketball hosts Whiteboard Discussion

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell Women's Basketball coaching staff hosted a Whiteboard Discussion session Tuesday in coordination with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators' professional development initiative. The event, held in the Pope Convocation Center, was sponsored by Papa's Subs & Pizza, which provided food for the participants.

The WBCA and NACWAA Whiteboard initiative goes beyond coaching strategy to provide coaches of women's basketball with a professional education and personal growth opportunity.

"Having not been to a whiteboard session, we didn't really have anything to compare ourselves to," head coach Wanda Watkins said. "Basically we used some of the ideas that the WBCA had on their website and combined that with some of our own and set up a program that we could facilitate here."

The workshop consisted of 13 coaches with the hopes that in a small setting, the coaches could interact and learn from each other more effectively.

Along with the members of CU's staff, coaches representing teams from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as junior college and high school discussed topics focusing on values, motivation, leadership, and communication.

"In each of these areas we did different types of assessments that we could use with our staffs and teams to develop better tools for developing and motivating the kids, learning more about their values, and we culminated it all with a great discussion about identifying and nurturing leaders," Watkins continued.

Campbell's goal for hosting the event is for coaches to continue to grow within their profession and hopefully expand the Whiteboard talks at their own schools and conferences.
