Former Camel Matt Sergey tosses perfect game

WASHINGTON, PA. – Former Campbell all-conference hurler Matt Sergey completed the first perfect game in Frontier League history Sunday, Aug. 24.

Sergey, pitching for the Washington Wild Things, retired all 27 batters in a 6-0 win over the Gateway Grizzlies on Sunday. The 6-foot-4 righty fanned nine batters, throwing 100 pitches.

Sergey has pitched for three Frontier League teams over the last two seasons, including Gateway and Southern Illinois in addition to Washington.

The Plantation, Fla. native pitched two seasons at Campbell in 2010 and 2012 after transferring from Broward College. Sergey was a First Team All-Big South pick in 2012, going 7-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 15 starts, helping Campbell to its first 40-win season in program history.

Campbell finished the 2014 season with a 41-21 overall record, tying for the second-most wins in school history. The Camels claimed the Big South Tournament Championship in Rock Hill, S.C., earning the school's second NCAA Regional berth.

In the Columbia Regional, No. 4 seed CU picked up its first-ever NCAA Regional win, knocking off third-seeded Old Dominion 4-1 in 12 innings.

Campbell has won 131 games over the last three years, and are one of just eight programs nationally with three consecutive 40-plus win seasons.
