Campbell earns 3-1 victory in mid-week tilt at Stetson

DELAND, Fla. - Campbell got a two-goal, five-point night from freshman Bradley Farias and another score from sophomore Tunji Osifeso in a 3-1 victory over Stetson at the Athletic Training Center on Thursday evening.

The win pushes Campbell to its first 3-0-0 start since 1988 and is its first victory against the Hatters since a 2-0 win on Oct. 22, 2009.

In just 61 minutes of action, Farias tallied a pair of the Camels' goals and added an assist on Osifeso's score. It was the first multi-goal performance by a Campbell player since Jhuvon Francis notched a hat trick against Longwood last season.

Senior Scooter Oliver also collected his first point since Oct. 17, 2012, by playing a through ball to Farias for an assist on his second goal of the evening.

Stetson tested Campbell's defense out of the gate. Just three minutes into the match, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski was pressed into action on an attempt by Ross Morison and came up with an early save.

The Hatters tallied three more shots and a pair of corners in the first 10 minutes of the contest but could not create anything from the opportunities.

Junior Reafe Anderson fired the first shot of the night for the Camels, an attempt that was deflected in the 11th minute. Farias followed with a shot on goal that was saved by Paul Ladwig eight minutes later.

The freshman would convert just two minutes after his first shot. Breaking away for a one-on-one opportunity, Farias sent the ball past Ladwig to give Campbell an early 1-0 advantage at the 20:54 mark.

Stetson had a quick flurry of chances in the 34th minute. Lucas Diniz had a shot blocked by a Campbell defender and Mozynski made another save on a chance by Dwight Lodge to maintain the one-goal lead into the halftime break.

Four minutes into the second half, the Hatters were able to find an equalizer off the foot of JJ Bostic. Jeppe Moe played a direct free kick into the box and Bostic was able to beat Mozynski to knot the match at 1-1. The goal was the first that the redshirt freshman has surrendered this season.

Bernardo Carabelli nearly gave Stetson the lead in the 63rd minute, but Mozynski bounced back from giving up the equalizer to make the stop.

A hard foul in the box at the 64:11 mark handed the Camels their first penalty kick chance of the season. Senior Ricki Gaez lined up to take it but sent the attempt just wide of the net as the score remained level.

Osifeso broke the deadlock at 67:58 with his first goal of the season for Campbell. Farias connected with the sophomore for what would become the game-winning goal as Ladwig was unable to make the stop. The assist was the first of Farias' career in with the Camels.

Just over six minutes later at 74:20, Farias was once again able to play his way into a one-on-one situation against Ladwig. Oliver played in a through ball from well past midfield and the freshman found the back of the net to reach the final 3-1 scoreline.

Mozynski made a pair of saves in the last 15 minutes on shots by Diniz and Eli Beates to maintain the lead as the Camels were able to hold on for the victory.

Campbell will return to action next Tuesday, Sept. 16, as UNC Wilmington makes the trip to Buies Creek for a 6:00 p.m. showdown. The most storied rivalry in school history, Campbell holds a 26-20-2 advantage in 48 meetings against the Seahawks.
