BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Women's soccer fell to Western Carolina Saturday night at Eakes Athletics Complex, 3-0. The Camels' 2014 regular season record now stands at 1-3-1, and 0-3-0 all-time versus the Catamounts.
"I thought we played well in the first half," head coach Stuart Horne said."We were moving the ball, going by our game plan. That first goal they got really deflated us and they didn't quite recover from it.
"Coming into the second half, it never really came together. We just didn't respond in the second half. If we're going to get better we have to start putting together a complete 90 minutes and not have the little things still get us."
Western Carolina's Courtney Rosu found the back of the net first Saturday night for the Catamounts, scoring on a shot from 10-yards out past the diving junior goalkeeper, Alexis Connors.
The Catamounts tacked on two goals 1:10 minutes apart in the second half, the first from Kimberly Southern on a deflection from a free kick, and the second from Kelly Pannell to an open Markie Studnicky inside the Campbell box.
Sophomore midfielder Payton Ormsby led the team with four shots, two on goal, while redshirt junior forward Ashley Clark registered two. Clark made her first appearance for the Camels since their last home game, against UNC Wilmington.
Connors (1-1-1) started in net for the Camels but was later replaced by junior keeper Samantha Lawson (0-2-0).
The Camels will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. Wednesday to take on the South Carolina State Bulldogs; kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
