BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell men's soccer has achieved a national ranking for the first time since the end of the 2008 season, placing 25th in the newest TopDrawerSoccer.com poll released by the organization Monday morning.
The Camels are off to a 3-0-0 start for the first time since 1988 and are one of only three unblemished sides in the nation alongside Delaware (6-0-0) and George Mason (5-0-0). Campbell also joins Big South rival Coastal Carolina (No. 20) in this week's rankings.
Campbell was last ranked in the 2008 year-end poll by Soccer America and was also ranked 25th in that poll. That season, the Camels pieced together a 12-match winning streak after beginning the year with a 2-5 record and reached the Atlantic Sun Championship before falling 4-3 against Jacksonville.
Freshmen have played a large role in the Camels' success thus far in 2014. Goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski earned several National Player of the Week awards following a 10-save shutout in the opener at UNCG and forward Bradley Farias currently leads the Big South in points per match (2.33) and goals per match (1).
The newly-ranked Camels are set to take on longtime rival UNC Wilmington at the Eakes Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. In 48 meetings against the Seahawks, Campbell holds a 26-20-2 edge overall and a 13-11-0 mark in Buies Creek.
