BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski has earned three National Player of the Week awards and a pair of Big South Player of the Week honors following his strong play in Campbell's 1-0 victory at UNCG on Friday evening.
The Bellingham, Mass., native was named TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Player of the Week and featured as the goalkeeper on its National Team of the Week, received the Disney/NSCAA Division I Men's Soccer National Player of the Week honors and was named the National Defensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
In his collegiate debut on Friday, he stymied the UNCG offense between the posts, making 10 saves and garnering the solo shutout after playing all 90 minutes.
Eight of his 10 saves came in the second half, and none were more pivotal than a diving stop on Aaron Reifschneider's penalty kick in the 55th minute, just three minutes after the Camels had taken the lead on a goal by junior Isaiah Page.
In addition to his haul of national awards, the redshirt freshman also received Big South Player of the Week from College Sports Madness and was honored by the conference office as well, bringing home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
He is the first Campbell player to win a weekly award from the conference office since Mitchell Cardenas earned Attacking Player of the Week on Nov. 6, 2012. Goalkeeper Ethan Hall won Campbell's only other Defensive Player of the Week award on Aug. 28, 2012.
Campbell (1-0-0) will return to action this Saturday at 6 p.m. as the Camels welcome Loyola (Md.) (0-1-0) to the Eakes Athletics Complex for their home opener.
