Campbell falls 1-0 on late strike at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville's Griffin Kelly scored on a header off a corner kick in the 88th minute to down Campbell 1-0 on Tuesday evening at Southern Oak Stadium.

Christian Hernandez of the Dolphins (2-5-0) served up the corner and Kelly's header beat redshirt freshman goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski for the decisive late score. Campbell (3-3-0) fell to 1-1 against Atlantic Sun teams this season after defeating Stetson by a 3-1 margin earlier this month.

Nine players for the Camels played the full 90 minutes, including freshmen Travis Gonzalez, Hernan Mogollon and Bradley Farias. Farias also had Campbell's pair of shots on goal but could not find the back of the net after scoring in three of his last four contests.

The Dolphins narrowly outshot Campbell, 15-13, and the two sides were even with six corners apiece. Mozynski made three saves, while Marc Meny earned the shutout while stopping a pair of shots.

Campbell nearly grabbed an early lead in the 11th minute. Sophomore Tunji Osifeso broke free of Jacksonville's defense and got a shot off that struck the post, keeping the match scoreless. The Camels kept up the pressure over the next seven minutes with three more shots from Farias and Jhuvon Francis, but Meny was not forced to make saves on any of the attempts.

Farias recorded the first shot on goal of the night for Campbell at the 22:32 mark, but Meny was there to knock it away. Both sides would see chances throughout the remainder of the first half, most notably as Mozynski stonewalled Jacksonville's Jack Burns on an attempt in the 36th minute, but neither could find a breakthrough as the score remained 0-0 at the halftime break.

In the second half, each team had chances early but neither could put a shot on target until the 80th minute, when Farias again fired a blast for Campbell that was stopped by Meny. Just two minutes later, Jacksonville's Kacper Grzeszczak tested Mozynski, who made his third save of the night to maintain the draw.

Griffin's headed goal at 87:08 proved to be the game-winner as Campbell could not find an equalizer in the final two minutes.

Campbell will return to action this Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when No. 20 Davidson travels to the Eakes Athletics Complex. The match will be part of the university's Family Weekend festivities and, as always, will feature free admission for both students and the general public.
