BUIES CREEK, N.C. – With just six points separating the teams heading into the final event, Liberty took the top three spots in the 200 yard freestyle relay to edge Campbell 140-121 in the 2014-15 for both squads Friday at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
The Camels trailed the defending CCSA Champion Flames 119-106 with just two races remaining before CU freshman Sindija Silina won the 200 IM with a 2:10.38 with junior Lily Tang finishing third (2:11.00) to pull the home team within six points.
Liberty opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Another Campbell freshman, Geena Squartino (10:30.15), then edged out Liberty's Hannah Wakeley by a slim .02 in the 1,000 yard freestyle for the Camels' first victory of the day in the freshman's first collegiate race.
The win was the first of two wins on the day for Squartino, a Cooper City, Fla. native, who also took the 500 free with a time of 5:10.16.
Tang won the 100 back with a 58.92, while freshman Michelle Case topped the 200 fly on a 2:05.71 mark. Also taking wins on the day were junior Erica Wammock, who took the 50 free with a 25.24, and freshman Caroline Clark with a 58.24 in the 100 fly.
