PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – After shooting a 4-under-par 284 to sit sixth in the men's team standings, Campbell owns a one-stroke advantage on the combined leader board after Sunday's first round of the Golfweek Program Challenge.
The 54-hole event matches men's and women's teams from 12 schools from around the country at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (women) and True Blue Plantation (men). The combined men's and women's scores from each program are added at the end of the event to determine the overall champion.
Campbell (one over par) leads the combined standings, one stroke ahead of Old Dominion (+2) and two clear of Gardner-Webb (+3). Furman (+10) is fourth and Valparaiso fifth (+14).
After 18 holes, Valpo (15-under-par 273) holds a 3-stroke edge over Gardner-Webb (276) in the men's standings. Old Dominion (277) is third, followed by Jacksonville State (279), Jacksonville (280) and Campbell (284).
Valpo's Jared Magoline and Bryce Howell of Furman both carded 7-under-par 65s to share the individual lead. Five players are tied at 4-under 68 heading into Monday's second round, which starts at 8:15 a.m. on the par-72, 6926-yard True Blue layout. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
