BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell picked up a trio of victories in its first meet of the season at the Art and Linda Maillet UNC Open on Saturday, earning gold medals in the men's high jump, women's long jump and the men's one mile run.
Freshman Sabina Allen captured the women's long jump with a leap of 18-2.5 (5.55m), fellow freshman Lawrence Kipkoech won the men's one mile run in 4:13.84 and sophomore Davian Rhodes won gold in the men's high jump after reaching a height of 6-6.75 (2.00m).
The Camels will be back in action next Sunday, Jan. 25, at the UNCG Team Challenge in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's results from Saturday's Art and Linda Maillet UNC Open.
Men's 60m Dash
Lennox Williams turned in the best time in the preliminary heats, crossing the line in 6.91. In the eight-man finals, Williams improved his time to 6.88 but placed second overall.
Women's 60m Dash
Lynette Akai (8.03), Lilla Juhasz (8.06) and Jocelyn Culbreath (8.11) competed for Campbell in the preliminary heats, placing 13th, 15th and 18th, respectively.
Women's 60m Hurdles
Lilla Juhasz advanced to the finals by placing fifth overall with a time of 8.96 in the heats, and Andriel Strachan also competed, finishing 18th in 10.24. In the finals, Juhasz sped to a finish in 8.86, placing second overall.
Men's 200m Dash
Tashinga Chitambira earned another podium finish for the Camels, placing third overall with a time of 23.26.
Women's 200m Dash
Lynette Akai took sixth overall in 26.09, and Jocelyn Culbreath finished 16th in the event with a time of 26.79.
Men's 400m Dash
A trio of Camels took to the track and both Stanley Hicks (fourth, 51.05) and Oshane Burrell (fifth, 51.34) earned top-five finishes for the squad. Jacob Carter also competed, placing 24th with a time of 54.80.
Men's 800m Run
Tariq Fullerton led Campbell's contingent in the event, placing fourth in 1:58.34. Nate Kennedy finished just behind in 2:01.60 to finish seventh, and Braxton Cline took 11th in 2:04.59.
Women's 800m Run
Kelsey Rea (14th, 2:35.35) and Racheal Brown (15th, 2:36.40) earned top-15 finishes for the Camels, and Alfreda Hagans took 24th overall in 2:47.73.
Men's One Mile Run
Lawrence Kipkoech picked up a victory for Campbell in his first collegiate meet, earning the gold medal with a time of 4:13.84. Morgan Timiney took home sixth place as well, finishing in 4:18.36.
Women's One Mile Run
All three Camels competing finished in the top 20, led by Kelsey Rea placing 13th in 5:35.94. Kaelyn Yoder took 19th in 5:45.13 and Amina Alvarez Barkane was just behind in 20th after crossing the line in 5:47.46.
Women's 3,000m Run
Daisy Chepchirchir represented Campbell in the event, taking 23rd overall in 11:43.72.
Men's 4x400m Relay
The quartet of Nate Kennedy, Michael Bedell, Tariq Fullerton and Jacob Carter finished fifth overall with a time of 3:32.23.
Women's 4x400m Relay
Jocelyn Culbreath, Lynette Akai, Lilla Juhasz and Racheal Brown brought home a seventh-place finish for the Camels, crossing the line in 4:10.42.
Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins narrowly missed taking the gold for Campbell, placing second with a leap of 22-10.5 (6.97m). Taylor Swanson also made his collegiate debut, finishing 14th with a mark of 18-10.5 (5.75m).
Women's Long Jump
Sabina Allen came away with the victory in her first collegiate meet, jumping 18-2.5 (5.55m). Shenelle McKay, also making her debut, finished ninth (17-1.5/5.22m) and Jaszlyn Jenkins took 18th overall (15-9.75/4.82m).
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes earned the final victory of the day for Campbell, reaching a height of 6-6.75 (2.00m) en route to the win.
Women's High Jump
Jocelyn Culbreath led the way for Campbell's trio in the event, taking fourth with a jump of 5-3 (1.60m). Sabina Allen matched Culbreath's leap, but needed two attempts to do so and tied for fifth overall. Andriel Strachan finished just behind in eighth place, reaching a height of 5-1 (1.55m).
Men's Triple Jump
Lorne Jenkins picked up his second silver medal of the day in the triple jump, hitting 46-8 (14.22m) to place second overall.
Women's Triple Jump
The Camels earned a pair of top-five finishes in the event, with Shenelle McKay (36-11.75/11.27m) taking third and Jaszlyn Jenkins (36-11/11.25m) placing fourth.
Men's Shot Put
Two newcomers for Campbell finished in the top 10, with Ethan Mitchell leading the way in fourth place after a throw of 43-5.75 (13.25m). Sharaj Prince produced a heave of 40-8.25 (12.40m) to finish sixth overall.
Women's Shot Put
Erin Igwacho headed the Camel duo in the event, placing 16th overall with a throw of 31-10.75 (9.72m); Andriel Strachan took 24th with a mark of 24-4.25 (7.42m).
Men's Weight Throw
Ethan Mitchell and Sharaj Prince competed together again for Campbell in the event. Mitchell took sixth, throwing a distance of 38-11.75 (11.88m), while Prince finished ninth with a throw of 31-6.75 (9.62m).
