WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Lilla Juhasz and Lawrence Kipkoech broke a pair of school records on Friday as Campbell competed in the Hilton Garden Invitational hosted at the JDL Fast Track.
Juhasz broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles, advancing to Saturday's semifinals in the event with a time of 8.60. Kipkoech, who picked up his first collegiate victory in the one mile run at the UNC Open, broke Amon Terer's one-year old record in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:15.04.
Campbell will remain in action at the Hilton Garden Invitational on Saturday, with events getting underway at 9:00 a.m. with the men's shot put before concluding with the men's 4x400m relay at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Following is an event-by-event summary of Campbell's results from Friday's action at the Hilton Garden Invitational.
Men's 60m Dash (Prelims)
Lennox Williams, the reigning Big South Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, turned in a time of 6.88 to finish eighth overall and advance to Saturday's semifinals. Tashinga Chitambira will join Williams in the semifinals, placing 18th with a time of 6.93. DeAndre Douglas also competed for the Camels, crossing the line in 7.36 to place 70th overall.
Men's 60m Hurdles (Prelims)
Lorne Jenkins turned in a time of 8.75, placing 33rd and missing qualification for the semifinals by just one-hundredth of a second.
Women's 60m Hurdles (Prelims)
Lilla Juhasz smashed her own school record by seven-hundredths of a second, placing 10th overall and advancing to the semifinals with a time of 8.60. Andriel Strachan competed as well, finishing in 9.73 to place 44th overall.
Men's 400m Dash
Nate Kennedy led the Campbell duo in the event, placing 42nd with a time of 52.47, and Jacob Carter crossed the line in 54.94 to finish 75th overall.
Women's 400m Dash
Lynette Akai grabbed a top-10 finish for the Camels, coming in seventh with a time of 57.70, while Jocelyn Culbreath took 32nd in 1:00.83.
Men's 800m Run
Tariq Fullerton (1:58.81) and Braxton Cline (2:00.21) competed for Campbell, finishing 41st and 47th, respectively.
Women's 800m Run
Kelsey Rea (2:25.51) and Kaelyn Yoder (2:25.76) posted nearly identical times, placing 43rd and 46th, respectively.
Men's 3,000m Run
Campbell claimed three of the top 10 spots in the event, and Lawrence Kipkoech sped to a new school-record time of 8:15.04 to claim third place. Amon Terer, competing for the first time in 2015, finished eighth overall in 8:22.91, and Evan Darm grabbed 10th place after finishing in 8:29.55.
Men's 5,000m Run
Distance specialist Anthony Hughes finished just outside the top 10 for the Camels, finishing 11th overall with a time of 15:27.31.
Women's Distance Medley Relay
Posting a time of 13:38.47, the quartet of Kaelyn Yoder, Brianna Meyrick, Amina Alvarez Barkane and Kelsey Rea brought home a 12th-place finish.
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes added a top-10 finish for Campbell, reaching a height of 6-5.5 (1.97m) to finish eighth overall.
Women's High Jump
A group of four Camels competed in the event, spearheaded by Shenelle McKay's leap of 5-3.75 (1.62m) that landed her in a tie for sixth place. Sabina Allen was up next, finishing in a tie for 12th after reaching a height of 5-1.75 (1.57m) on her first opportunity. Both Jocelyn Culbreath (T-15th) and Andriel Strachan (17th) reached the same height but on their second chances.
Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins turned in a strong finish for Campbell, tying for 12th overall with a distance of 21-8.25 (6.61m).
Women's Long Jump
After breaking her own 60m hurdles record earlier in the day, Lilla Juhasz took 13th overall with a leap of 17-6.25 (5.34m). Sabina Allen finished just behind, reaching a distance of 17-2.25 (5.24m) to place 18th. Shenelle McKay also competed for the Camels, finishing 45th after a jump of 15-3.25 (4.65m).
Men's Weight Throw
Ethan Mitchell was the lone competitor for the Camels, placing 37th with a mark of 37-4 (11.38m).
