Lady Camels fall 79-59 at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Senior Kiera Gaines scored a season-high 22 points, but Campbell (8-6, 3-2 BSC) fell 79-59 in Big South action against High Point (8-6, 4-1 BSC) inside the Millis Center on Monday evening.

The Lady Camels trailed by 13 with 5:38 remaining and the Panthers used a 10-3 run to close out the game for the victory. High Point led for all but 37 seconds in the contest.

Campbell shot 24-of-56 (42.9 percent) from the field but knocked down just two of its nine (22.2 percent) three-point attempts. High Point went 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) and connected on seven shots from beyond the arc.

Gaines also tallied a game-high nine rebounds and was joined in double figures by freshman Summer Price, who had her second-best game of the season with 17 points and seven rebounds. Price also paced the Lady Camels by dishing out four assists.

Stacia Robertson led the Panthers with 21 points and seven rebounds. She was joined in double figures by a trio of teammates: Kaylah Keys (16), Teddy Vincent (14) and Lindsay Puckett (10).

High Point jumped out to a 9-4 lead early on, keyed by a pair of three-pointers from Keys and Puckett. Campbell, however, rallied back with six unanswered points, punctuated by a breakaway layup from Price, to grab a 10-9 advantage with 14:49 remaining in the half.

The Panthers used the strength of a 10-2 run over the next four and a half minutes to build their largest lead of the game to that point, as a jumper from Keys put High Point ahead 19-12 with just over 10 minutes left in the first stanza.

Campbell closed the gap to four, 22-18, at the 6:44 mark, but High Point maintained its lead through the break, taking a 43-34 advantage into the locker room.

Leading 63-51 with 8:02 left on the clock, a 6-0 run by the Panthers left the Lady Camels in an 18-point hole. Campbell closed the gap to 13, but could get no closer than that the rest of the way.

Campbell will return to action inside Gore Arena on Saturday afternoon as UNC Asheville makes the trip to Buies Creek for a 1 p.m. tip-off. The Lady Camels hold a 33-7 edge in the all-time series against the Bulldogs, including a 16-2 mark on their home court, and have won six straight and eight of the last 10 in the series.
