CU hosts Fighting Camel Fall Classic at Keith Hills

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Ranked No.-45 in the nation, Campbell University hosts the 21st Fighting Camel Fall Classic Sunday through Tuesday at Keith Hills Golf Club.

Campbell, which has won its home event 16 times (including 14 of the last 15) headlines a field of 15 schools.  The teams will play 18 holes each day beginning Sunday's 8:30 a.m. double tee times.  Tuesday's final round is set for a 9:00 a.m. shotgun on the par-72, 6050-yard Keith Hills Orange & Black layout.

With top-five finishes in each of its first two outings of the fall campaign, Campbell holds a 292.83 team stroke average.  Four Camels are ranked among the nation's top-250 in scoring average according to Golfstat, led by junior Nadine White (52nd, 72.33), senior Tahnia Ravnjak (109th, 73.17), junior Louise Latorre (183rd, 73.83) and sophomore Annelie Sjoholm (216th, 74.17).

Campbell's top four golfers all rank among the Big South's six-best scoring average leaders. White is second, Ravnjak fourth, Latorre fifth and Sjoholm tied for sixth entering the team's home event.

A native of Brisbane, Australia, White earned her first collegiate individual title in the season-opening Golfweek Program Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.  She shot 70-67-70—207 on the par-71 layout to set school 36- and 54-hole records in the process.  Last year, White tied for second at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic (72-72-77—221) finishing at five-over par, one stroke off the winning score.

Ravnjak, who hails from Cordeaux Heights, Australia, has finished among the top-10 individuals in both of her tournaments this fall.  Last year, she placed fifth at the event (72-73-77—222), her second-straight top-10 at Campbell's annual fall tournament.

Latorre, a product of Pau, France, owns two top-20 individual showings this fall.  She did not participate in the 2014 Fighting Camel Fall Classic in order to rest an injury, but tied for 11th (75-77-74—226) as a freshman in 2013.

Sjoholm, a resident of Vasteras, Sweden, is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, where she shot 74-74-71—219.  Including a 69 on the last day of the Golfweek Program Challenge, Sjoholm is averaging a final round score of 70 through two events this year.  She tied for 24th at last season's Fighting Camel Fall Classic (78-77-79—234).

Sophomore Ayelen Irizar tied for 27th at last year's Fighting Camel Fall Classic (80-79-76—235).

Senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek of Cary, N.C., and freshman Anna Svanka of Riga, Latvia are expected to make their first playing appearances of the 2015-16 season.  Holanek tied for 24th at last year's Fighting Camel Fall Classic (84-75-75—234), where she matched her collegiate low round over each of the final two days.  Svanka has won the last two Latvian Open titles has been a member of the Latvian Youth Olympic team since 2012.

This year's Fighting Camel Fall Classic field includes 2014 runner-up High Point as well as Old Dominion, which finished second in the 2013 and 2012 FCFC and fourth last fall.  Old Dominion is ranked No.-58 in the latest Golfstat NCAA ratings.  The event also includes Nova Southeastern, the seventh-ranked Division II team in the country.

Campbell has won its home event the last seven times the tournament has been held and 14-straight on the Keith Hills Orange & Black layout.  CU golfers have claimed individual titles at the Fighting Camel Classic 13 times, most recently in 2013 when Kaylin Yost finished as individual champ.
