ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop netted the lone goal in the second half as Campbell fell 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Big South action.
Samantha Lawson earned her second consecutive start for the Fighting Camels after a shutout victory against Coastal Carolina Wednesday. Lawson made a pair of saves for her side in the loss.
In the opening five minutes Campbell had to hold off a trio of Winthrop shots and corner kicks before building its own attack.
The Orange and Black registered their first shot in the 13th minute as Ashley Clark connected a shot but went over the crossbar. Three minutes later, Campbell's attack continued and earned themselves a corner kick, but to no avail as the game remained scoreless.
Campbell had its chances in the first stanza as Payton Ormsby registered a pair of shots for the Camels along with Clark and Shannon Wratchford. The match remained scoreless after the first half.
In the opening 15 minutes of the second half both teams exchanged multiple changes towards frame. Clark and Ormsby continued to find offensive chances but nothing threating frame as their attempts went high or wide.
In the 75th minute Emily Crick found the back of the net for the Eagles. She received a pass from Samantha Prytulak after collecting a cross by Olivia Costello.
Neither team registered a shot following the goal from Crick, but Campbell had the closest opportunity as Clark had a corner kick in the 88th minute.
Campbell travels to Longwood for a midweek matchup Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Its season concludes the following Tuesday at High Point.
