BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Louise Latorre and Nadine White are tied for third place and Campbell is tied with Old Dominion for the team lead after Sunday's first round of the Fighting Camel Fall Classic.
On a breezy day with difficult pin placements, both 45th-ranked Campbell and ODU finished the day at 18-over-par 306. Mary Janiga of Mercer and Stetson's Carolin Schart shared the individual lead at even-par 72 on the 6050-yard Keith Hills Golf Club layout.
No one in the 84-golfer field finished Sunday's round in red numbers. Latorre and White are in a five-way tie for third place at two-over 74. Annelie Sjoholm, Tahnia Ravnjak and Anna Svanka are tied for 26th at seven-over-par 79. Playing as individuals, both Ayelen Irizar (T8th, 75) and Mary-Katelyn Holanek (T18th, 78) are among the top 20.
Monday's second round begins at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. Campbell will start from the first tee with ODU and Northern Illinois at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday's final round will be a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
White finished the day with a tournament-leading 14 pars, while Latorre, Sjoholm and Irizar made 13 pars on the day. Latorre was 2-under on the par-5 holes, tied for second in the field, and played the par-4 layouts at one-over (tied for third).
Campbell has won its home event the last seven times the tournament has been held and 14-straight on the Keith Hills Orange & Black layout. CU golfers have claimed individual titles at the Fighting Camel Classic 13 times, most recently in 2013 when Kaylin Yost finished as individual champ.
