BUIES CREEK, N.C. – With six individuals in the top 10, Campbell University owns a 16-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round of the Fighting Camel Fall Classic at Keith Hills Golf Club.
Nadine White shot the low round of the day and moved up to second place (74-72—146), one stroke behind leader Mary Janiga of Mercer (72-73—145). After dropping to two-over for the day, White birdied the toughest hole on the course, the par-four 15th, and followed with a three on the par-four 16th. The 2014 Fighting Camel Fall Classic runner-up leads the 84-golfer field with 26 pars and tops the event in par-four scoring (plus-one).
Sophomore Annelie Sjoholm (79-74—153) is tied for 10th along with junior Louise Latorre (74-80—154) and senior Tahnia Ravnjak (79-75—154). Playing as individuals, sophomore Ayelen Irizar (T6th, 75-77—152) and senior Mary-Katelyn Holanek (T10th, 78-76—154) are also among the top 10. Freshman Anna Svanka (79-80—159) is tied for 33rd.
No.-45 Campbell (306-301—607) holds a 16-stroke advantage over Mercer (313-310—623) after 36 holes. First day co-leader Old Dominion (306-318—624) is third, followed by Northern Arizona (315-310—625).
White (1-under), Sjoholm (even) and Ravnjak (even) combined to play the back nine holes one-under par. The 21st edition of the FCFC has proven to be a test to the 15-team field with no individuals shooting better than par through 36 holes. Only once in the previous 20 times the tournament was held, has an individual finished in red numbers (2012 champ Amy Anderson who was 1-under).
As a team, Campbell leads the field in par-five (-2) and par-four (+30) scoring and in pars (110). In addition to White, Holanek (24), Irizar (23) and Sjoholm (23) rank among the top six in pars.
Tuesday's final round will be a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start with Campbell opening on the first three holes paired with Mercer and ODU. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
Campbell has won its home event the last seven times the tournament has been held and 14-straight on the Keith Hills Orange & Black layout. CU golfers have claimed individual titles at the Fighting Camel Classic 13 times, most recently in 2013 when Kaylin Yost finished as individual champ.
