BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Volleyball beat the Eagles of NC Central in three sets (25-21, 25-11, 25-16) as the earned their fourth straight win. The Camels move to 9-12 (3-4 BSC) on the season heading into Friday night's match against conference rival High Point.
Campbell's attack was led by freshman Jessica Stocking who tallied 12 kills, an ace, and a block assist. Jenny Tait added five total blocks, two solo, to go along with her seven kills of the night.
The Camels started the match strong going up 5-2 over the Eagles in the first set. NC Central came back to tie the game and kept the match close until Campbell gained a two-point lead (14-12) on NC Central errors. The Camels went on to win the first set 25-21 after holding off the Eagles who came within two points (22-20) late in the set. Rachel Harty, Tait, and Stocking collected three kills apiece while Mary Crema led the defense with seven digs.
The team gained their composure going into the second set as they scored the first five points thanks to good serving by Crema. NC Central came within two points of the Camels (10-8) but a couple of Campbell kills put the home team back up by four as they closed out the set 25-11 heading into the intermission. Stocking had a strong second set knocking down six of the camels 16 kills. Katelyn Layden and Tait added three each in the game. Crema again led the defense with five digs and added two service aces as the Orange and Black controlled the set.
Coming out of the intermission Campbell received the serve. Layden started things off for the home team and help them score the four points of the set. The Eagles would come within one point of the home team (7-6) but Campbell buckled down and took off going on an 18-10 run wrapping up the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
McKenzie Fell and Harty each recorded four kills while Stocking added three of her own in the Camels win. Crema collected eight digs in the third set as she finished with her fourth 20-dig performance over the last four games. Tait served up three aces as the Camels had seven on the night.
Campbell returns to action on Friday, Oct. 23 for Alumni Night as they host conference rival High Point at 7 p.m.
