BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell won the final five events to defeat visiting UNC Asheville 155-107 Saturday at the Johnson Aquatic Center.
The Camels led Asheville 87-82 with five events remaining, but outscored the Bulldogs 68-25 over the final five events to secure the win. Campbell moved to 3-2 in dual meets with the win, while Asheville dipped to 1-1.
Campbell opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:49.17), and Geena Squartino followed with a win in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:33.33. Michelle Case then topped the 200 free with a 1:54.97.
Asheville brought the Campbell lead down to five (49-44) with wins in the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke. Ale Sanchez (59.71) and Jess Woolfe (1:01.00) finished one-two in the 100 back, and Alessandra Troncoso (1:08.39) won the 100 breaststroke for the Bulldogs to narrow the CU lead.
Caroline Clark won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.78 to break the Asheville streak, and Michelle Case took the 100 free with a 53.30 to put Campbell ahead 82-68.
Asheville's Morgan Rulevich brought the Bulldogs back within five (87-82) with a 14-5 swing in the 50 free, before Campbell's decisive run to close the meet.
Taylor McMinn (2:29.02, 200 breaststroke), Geena Squartino (5:13.59, 500 freestyle), Michelle Case (58.02, 100 butterfly) and Karah Sizemore (4:39.75, 400 IM) took wins for the Camels over the stretch. Campbell closed the day with a 3:34.29 to top the 200 freestyle relay.
Next up for the Camels will be East Carolina and Gardner-Webb on Nov. 7 in Buies Creek. Campbell hosts Vanderbilt on Nov. 14.
