CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Campbell has been predicted to finish fifth in the Big South Conference according to a vote by the league's preseason poll as announced Monday at the Big South Media Day. In addition, senior guard RaeChaun Edwards has been named to the preseason All-Conference second team.

"With the youth on the team this season, I think fifth was a respectable pick," said head coach Wanda Watkins. "It is something that we can definitely use as a motivational tool. It's just as close from the top to the bottom, so it will keep us honest in a number of ways."

Edwards, a native of Spring Grove, Virginia, was a Big South honorable mention selection last season. She led the conference in both assists (6.1) and steals per game (2.83).  Her 177 assists ranked third-most in a single season in Campbell history, while her 82 steals were good for eighth on the single-season charts.
Edwards averaged 9.5 points per game and scored in double-figures in 12 games. Seven of those performances came in the final 10 contests of the season including a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting (63.6 percent) in CU's victory over Winthrop. Edwards also handed out a career-high 11 assists in the Lady Camels' Big South Quarterfinal win over the Eagles.
Additionally, Edwards was also named to the College Sports Madness Big South Preseason All-Conference first team.
"RaeChaun is a tremendous asset to our team in all schemes of things," said Watkins. "She is a general out on the court and she has a great grasp on the game as she enters her fifth season. "Her teammates have so much faith and confidence in her. She is going to be a vital part of everything we do on both sides of the ball."

Defending league champions Liberty was predicted to repeat after receiving 116 points and six first place votes. Winthrop received four first place nods to earn the second place billing followed by Radford in third while High Point and Campbell rounded out the top five.

Gardner-Webb was selected sixth while Presbyterian and UNC Asheville came in at seventh and eighth respectively. Longwood was ninth while Coastal Carolina came in at ten, but also received a first place vote. Charleston Southern rounded out the poll in 11th.

Liberty's Ashley Rininger was named the Preseason Player of the Year while Winthrop led the way with two first-team selections.

The Lady Camels are coming off their second-straight 19-12 season and finished with a 13-7 mark in Big South play. CU advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament but fell to eventual champions Liberty. Campbell returns three starters and nine letter-winners overall in addition to five newcomers.

CU opens the season at home on Friday, Nov. 13 against UNC Pembroke at 5:30 p.m.
