BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Shannon Wratchford buried her third goal of the season 58 seconds into the first overtime session as Campbell earned the 3-2 victory against Radford during a windy and rainy contest inside the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Ashley Clark and Christine Kindt also tallied goals for the Camels in the victory. Alexis Connors collected her eighth win of the season in goal.
"We played well today, it was a good rebound from Liberty," head coach Stuart Horne said. "Nearly fifty percent of our shots were on target and that's how you get goals. Our three goals tonight were very good."
Campbell (8-4-0, 3-1-0) found its chances early in the match but was unable to find the scoresheet. Marissa Hartert had an opportunity in the 2nd minute, but her shot went above the bar for a goal kick. Eight minutes later Kine Thorsvik saw a chance towards goal but her shot attempt slid passed the left post.
In the 14th minute, Radford found the back of the net from 22 yards away courtesy of Hannah Duff. A free kick from near midfield was cleared away by the Campbell defense and fell to Duff who connected on a strong shot to the upper right corner of the goal.
The Fighting Camels continued their march towards goal in the first half as Clark and Payton Ormsby each connected on shots at goal, stymied each time by Highlander goalie Katie McCormick.
Despite having an 8-4 advantage in shots, Campbell entered halftime trailing 1-0 to Radford. The attack didn't stop in the second half for the home side.
In the 47nd minute, Kindt had a chance from six yards away but was stopped by McCormick. Five minutes later Kindt was found the back of the net from a similar position and buried the cross from Wratchford into the lower left corner.
Campbell kept a majority of the action in its attacking third for the next 17 minutes of action, despite brief Radford attacks. The Highlanders broke the deadlock in the 69th minute of play as Asyia Mitchell collected a loose ball off a tackle with Connors and placed it into the empty net.
Four minutes later the Camels equalized from a Clark clinical finish. Ormsby received a ball from Connors' free kick, she turned and played a through ball to Clark who finished the shot over a sliding McCormick.
The match finished in a deadlock after 90 minutes and ended less than one minute into the overtime session.
52 seconds into the first overtime session Wratchford controlled a pass over the top from Kindt. She controlled possession was able to turn and create space for the blast to the upper right corner of goal.
"Shannon's goal came down to a strong individual effort," Horne said. "Being composed receiving the ball with her back to goal and to create space for her shot and keeping it on frame was a veteran play by a freshman."
Campbell returns to the pitch at home versus Gardner-Webb with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. inside the Eakes Athletic Complex.
