Fifth-year senior Andrew Yost has earned All-PFL and PFL All-Academic honors during his time at Campbell. Prior to his final home game, he sat down with Athletic Communications student assistant Andrew Miller to discuss his Fighting Camel career.
What is your favorite thing about Campbell?
The progress of the program shown over the past four to five years. To see this program go from the bottom and to develop into what it is today is amazing, especially the stadium and the weight room.
How would you describe yourself as a factor that has contributed to the growth of the Campbell football program?
It is something I was definitely recruited for and I was sold on the fact that I could help grow a program and I have not been disappointed. As a leader on this team, we focus day by day trying to get better every day individually and as a whole.
What is your driving factor on the field?
To be the best I can be everyday. From learning new plays to encouraging teammates. Gamedays are special because you get a chance to showcase everyone's hard work to family, friends, and fans.
And off the field?
My parents and my brother. We are a pretty tight family. I feel like they are with me on the field. Especially for my brother because he used to play football so I play for him and carry on that legacy.
Who are your role models?
My parents. They have been great role models in many different ways. They are both hard workers which has translated over to me on the field.
What is your favorite thing about the Campbell football program?
Definitely my teammates! It has been a lot of fun to play with these guys for five years. The family atmosphere we have here is unmatched compared to to anywhere else. This program is like a family to me and everyone involved.
If you could be anything in the world what would that be?
An NFL superstar. I would probably be up there with Luke Keuchly playing for the Panthers.
Who is your favorite coach and why?
All of the coaches have been great. I would have to say coach (Andrew) Carter has been one of favorites because he has been here all five years. He has been a steady factor throughout the years especially during the coaching changes. Coach (Freddie) Lindsay, my linebacker coach this year, has been great and I regret that I won't be able to play for him for a few more years.
If you could change positions in football, what position would you choose?
I would want to be quarterback because they get all of the highlights and hype surrounding the program. It would be fun to drop back and throw a few touchdown passes but I don't have the arm for that so I'll just stick to playing linebacker.
If you had to would you dress up and be Gaylord the Camel at another athletic event other than football?
I could definitely be Gaylord for the day. I love seeing the fans get excited- especially all of the kids.
If you were Coach Minter what would you make sure happened at practice everyday?
I would do what we now. We bring a hard working mentality to practice everyday so we can push to get better but we also have a little fun. We mix hard work and fun so I would continue that tradition.
What is your favorite quote?
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
What is your favorite Mike Minter quote?
He has a lot of them but it would probably have to be him yelling "YOST" at me during the games.
Describe yourself in one word.
Passionate.
What is your favorite Campbell memory?
The win over Davidson at home last year was a good memory and this year's Drake game was a good one too.
What are you going to miss the most about Campbell?
The teammates and camaraderie between all of the guys. Being with my teammates will be something that I will always cherish.
What is it going to be like to run onto the field for the last time as a Camel?
It will be pretty emotional. I try not to take it for granted.
What advice would you give to the underclassmen as they look to the future of this program?
I would tell them to commit to this program and to work hard every day and to make the most of everyday.
