BUIES CREEK, N.C.Lawrence Kipkoech looks to continue his successful freshman campaign Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m., at the NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. at EP Tom Sawyer State Park.

Kipkoech most recently finished 11th at the NCAA Southeast Regional race with his 29:40.7 mark, Nov. 13, in Charlottesville, Va. The freshman earned all-region honors with his placement and garnered an individual at-large bid to this weekend's NCAA Championship race.

Along with competing for first place, Kipkoech also has his eyes set on finishing in the top-40 of the race. Finishing in that group Kipkoech will gain All-America status, adding to his many awards and honors this season.

"I know the course well," Kipkoech said. "I am confident that I will be able to compete against the top guys in the country and I will also be prepared for the task at hand."

This course is not an unfamiliar one to Kipkoech as he and the Campbell men's cross country team participated at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 17 at EP Tom Sawyer State Park. During that race, the Eldoret, Kenya native finished 18th with a time of 23:37.5, his second best time of the season in the 8K event.

"Lawrence had a great race here earlier in the season at prenationals," head coach Michael Kelly said. "I think he will respond even better to a 10K compared to the 8K race. Our goal is for him to earn All-American honors. "

As a freshman he has already claimed Big South Runner of the Year and Freshman of the Year with his first place finish at the 2015 Big South Cross Country Championships. He is the first male runner in Campbell history to compete in the NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships and the first runner since Alicia Valtin to represent Campbell at the event.
