JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- Campbell was dealt its first loss in its last three games at the hands of East Tennessee State by a 70-55 margin on Wednesday night. Caroline Bowns led the Lady Camels (5-3) with a career-high 10 points.
Brianna Cribb finished with a career-high eight points and led CU with seven rebounds and three steals. Jessica Pone added nine points with four assists while Amanda Coffer tallied eight points and a pair of blocks. Summer Price pulled down six boards.
Shamauria Bridges led ETSU (5-6) with 25 points, including five three pointers. Tianna Turner tallied 17 points with seven free throws and Chandler Christopher added 11. Sadasia Tipps pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Lady Camel reserves played the entire fourth period and out-scored the Bucs 15-7. CU held ETSU scoreless for the final five minutes of the game and finished the contest on a 9-0 run. Jewell Yarborough scored the last two points of the game, her first of the season.
ETSU got off to a hot start early, and after a quick four points by Coffer, it reeled off a 13-0 run to take a 20-4 lead with 2:24 to play in the first period. Qua Brown and Pone scored the next four for CU but the Bucs took a 23-8 lead into the second.
The Lady Camels were able to cool off the hot-shooting Bucs and used an 8-0 spurt to cut the deficit down to nine at 30-21 with 4:04 remaining in the second period. The teams traded the next four points and a Coffer jumper kept CU within nine with 1:22 to play before halftime. ETSU scored the last six points of the half in the final minute to take a 40-25 lead at the break.
Campbell was only able to get back within 13 points of the lead before the Bucs reeled off a 15-3 run to take a 25-point advantage with 3:03 on the clock in the third. ETSU led by as many as 28 before Bowns hit two free throws in the waning seconds of the period to cut the lead to 63-40 after three periods.
The Lady Camels will play their final two games before the Christmas holiday this weekend at the University of North Florida Osprey Classic in Jacksonville, Florida. CU will take on Central Arkansas on Saturday before facing the host Ospreys on Sunday.
