WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Morgan Timiney broke a 27-year old school record in the 800m run and Campbell captured six individual victories at the High Point Team Challenge hosted by the JDL Fast Track on Thursday evening.
Timiney toppled Jeff Slater's previous record of 1:53.73 set in the indoor 800m run during the 1988 season with a run of 1:53.24 on Thursday. In addition to Timiney's win, five other Camels tallied victories during the meet: Tashinga Chitambira, Lynette Akai, Davian Rhodes, Lorne Jenkins and Sabina Allen.
Campbell's men posted a 7-1 head-to-head dual record against teams competing in the meet, falling only against Big South foe and host High Point. The women posted a 5-3 head-to-head record, falling behind only Elon, High Point and The Citadel.
Lawrence Kipkoech and Amon Terer will be in action for the Camels this weekend at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and Campbell's remaining athletes will return to action next weekend as the team splits for the Alex Wilson Invite (Notre Dame, Ind.) and the Kent Taylor Invite (Chapel Hill, N.C.).
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's action at Thursday's High Point Team Challenge hosted at the JDL Fast Track.
Women's 60m Hurdles
After setting the Campbell indoor record in the event at last weekend's Meyo Invitational, Lilla Juhasz won her heat and placed fourth overall with a time of 9.23.
Men's 60m Dash
Tashinga Chitambira grabbed the Camels' first victory of the day, turning in the only time under seven seconds (6.94) for the win. Lorne Jenkins also earned a top-five finish, placing fifth overall with a time of 7.14.
Four more Camels also competed in the event, led by Nate Kennedy's 13th-place finish in 7.53. Stanley Hicks (7.56), Jacob Carter (7.57) and Taylor Swanson (7.68) earned back-to-back-to-back finishes, placing 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively.
Women's 60m Dash
Competing in her second event of the day, Lilla Juhasz again won her heat and earned the silver medal with a second-place finish and a time of 7.98
Men's 200m Dash
Leading a trio of Camels in the event, Tashinga Chitambira earned his second top-five finish of the day, placing fifth overall after crossing the line in 23.03. Nate Kennedy was next up, finishing 11th in 23.71, and Jacob Carter turned in a time of 23.98 to finish 13th overall.
Women's 200m Dash
Lynette Akai gave the Camel women their first win of the meet in the event, turning in a season-best time of 25.43 en route to the victory. Akai was one of four Campbell athletes who dominated the top five; Asia Olds (third, 25.88), Racheal Brown (fourth, 25.93) and Jocelyn Culbreath (fifth, 26.04) rounded out the Camel quartet in the sprint event.
Men's 800m Run
Morgan Timiney picked up his first victory of the season in record-breaking fashion, surging past Jeff Slater's old school record with a time of 1:53.24. Timiney's new record is the second set by a Camel male this season, with Lawrence Kipkoech rising to the top of the 3,000m record books at the Hilton Garden Invitational.
Women's 800m Run
Alfreda Hagans was the lone competitor for Campbell, placing 24th overall after crossing the line in 2:38.65.
Men's One Mile Run
Eric Baldwin grabbed Campbell's second top-10 finish of the day, bringing home a 10th-place finish in 4:19.89. Jacob Kipserem was close behind, finishing 14th in 4:22.53, and Braxton Cline wrapped up the event with a time of 4:39.95 to finish 21st overall.
Women's One Mile Run
Kelsey Rea led the way for the trio of Camels competing in the event, placing 14th overall with a time of 5:22.28. Kaelyn Yoder was up next, finishing 22nd in 5:30.78, and Daisy Chepchirchir rounded out the Camels in action, crossing the line in 6:05.83 to finish 27th overall.
Men's 3,000m Run
Anthony Hughes led the way for the Camel duo in the event, finishing 10th overall after crossing the line in 8:54.48. Mason Holt was not far behind, placing 16th in a time of 9:02.72.
Men's 4x400m Relay
Campbell's "A" team of Nate Kennedy, Stanley Hicks, Lorne Jenkins and Morgan Timiney earned the silver medal in the 1,600m relay, crossing the line in 3:27.49. The Camels' "B" team; Jacob Carter, Davian Rhodes, Braxton Cline and Taylor Swanson; finished 10th overall with a time of 3:41.45.
Women's 4x400m Relay
Asia Olds, Lynette Akai, Jocelyn Culbreath and Racheal Brown combined to form Campbell's "A" team, powering to a second-place finish in 3:59.09. The "B" team of Kaelyn Yoder, Jaszlyn Jenkins, Andriel Strachan and Kelsey Rea tallied an 11th-place finish after crossing the line in 4:26.14.
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes brought home another victory for Campbell, powering to the gold medal in his signature event with a height of 6-4.75 (1.95m). Marcus Mize also earned a podium finish for the Camels, taking the bronze after a leap of 5-8.75 (1.75m).
Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins gave the Camels their third field victory of the day by nearly fourth-tenths of a meter, covering a distance of 23-3.25 (7.09m) to earn the gold. Taylor Swanson picked up a sixth-place finish as well with a mark of 20-0.25 (6.10m).
Women's Long Jump
Sabina Allen earned her third individual victory of 2015, covering a distance of 17-9.75 (5.43m) to bring home the win. Shenelle McKay also picked up a top-10 finish for the Camels, placing sixth overall after a mark of 16-9.25 (5.11m).
Jaszlyn Jenkins (15-8.25/4.78m) and Andriel Strachan (14-10.5/4.53m) also competed, finishing 11th and 12th overall.
Men's Shot Put
Ethan Mitchell and Sharaj Prince competed for the Camels, placing fifth (44-10.75/13.68m) and sixth (44-2.5/13.47m), respectively.
Women's Shot Put
Andriel Strachan finished 12th overall after a heave of 31-2.75 (9.52m), and Amina Alvarez Barkane finished just behind in 13th place, tossing a distance of 17-8.75 (5.40m).
