SEATTLE, Wash. - Freshman Lawrence Kipkoech claimed the second school record of his young career on Friday evening, placing 30th overall in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 14:11.06 in the University of Washington's Husky Classic.
Kipkoech unseated Amon Terer, who also competed in the event, in the record books for the second time this season. The freshman powered to a record-breaking time of 8:15.04 in the 3,000m run at the Hilton Garden Invitational two weeks ago.
Terer also turned in a strong performance for the Camels in the event on Friday evening, finishing 45th overall after crossing the line in 14:24.46.
Kipkoech and Terer were the lone competitors from the Big South Conference in the 5,000m run at the prestigious meet and placed ahead of athletes from universities such as Texas, UCLA, Georgia and Washington.
The Camels will return to action at two separate meets next weekend, splitting for the Alex Wilson Invite in Notre Dame, Ind., and the Kent Taylor Invite in Chapel Hill, N.C. Campbell is two weeks out from the 2015 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships set to be hosted at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Feb. 26-27.
