Kipkoech, Jenkins named Big South Track and Field Athletes of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lawrence Kipkoech and Lorne Jenkins have been named the Big South Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Kipkoech's honor is the fourth straight Male Track Athlete of the Week award and the freshman's second of the season. He turned in a school-record time of 14:11.16 in the 5,000m run at the Husky Classic last weekend to finish 30th overall at the prestigious meet hosted by the University of Washington.

Jenkins is the first Male Field Athlete of the Week this season for the Camels. The sophomore set a new personal-best mark in the long jump at the High Point Team Challenge, picking up the victory with a leap of 23-3.25 (7.09m), finishing nearly four-tenths of a meter ahead of his closest competitor.

The Camels will be back in action at a pair of meets this weekend as the squad splits for the Kent Taylor Invite (Chapel Hill, N.C.) on Friday and Saturday and the Alex Wilson Invite (Notre Dame, Ind.) on Saturday. The meets will serve as the final tuneups prior to the Big South Indoor Conference Championships set to be held in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Feb. 26-27.
