Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Loren Day led Campbell with three goals, including two in the final 10 minutes, but the Camels (0-2) could not overcome an early George Mason (1-1) advantage and dropped a 9-5 decision at Barker-Lane Stadium on Sunday.
Annie Cook and Kayla Reilly each added one goal for Campbell, and Kaki Armiger tallied a pair of assists.
For George Mason, Melissa Lobaccaro led the way with three goals, and both Jacquelyn Spalding and Caitlin McGinn added a pair for the Patriots.
Day also led Campbell with a trio of draw controls, and Armiger added a pair of her own. On the Patriots' side, Alexa McGovern controlled six draws out of the circle.
Merredith Bechler made four saves for the Camels, while Taylor Carpentier stopped nine shots for George Mason.
The Patriots opened the scoring with four consecutive goals in the first 14 minutes, buoyed by a pair each from Lobaccaro and McGinn, but Campbell was able to cut the advantage in half with goals from Kayla Reilly and Day over the next five minutes.
George Mason closed out the first period with four more unanswered scores, leaving Campbell down 8-2 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Camels outscored the Patriots 3-1 and mounted a late rally off the stick of Day, who netted two goals nine seconds apart with under 10 minutes to play, that fell just short.
Campbell will be back in action for its third of four consecutive home games to open the season next Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as Furman makes the trip to Barker-Lane Stadium. The meeting will be the first in program history between the Camels and the Paladins.
