HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Freshman Jeremy Nevius was tied for the individual lead and Campbell stood sixth on the team leader board after Monday's first round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.

A native of Metuchen, N.J., Nevius matched his collegiate low with a 3-under 69 in a round that included four birdies and 13 pars.  He played the par-4 holes at one-under and was one-under on the par-3 layouts. 

Nevius finished the opening round in a four-way tie with J.T. Poston of Western Carolina, Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern, Andrw Novak of Wofford and Joey Krecic from Cleveland State.

In his collegiate debut, Campbell's Thomas La Morte shot a one-over 73 and was tied for 11th in the 95-golfer field. A product of Demarest, N.J., La Morte birdied three of his last four holes and had five on the day.  He also played the par-3 holes at one-under.

Campbell sophomore Craig Hornberger made 17 pars and was tied with La Morte at 11th.  Juniors Alvaro Veiga and Mikko Lehtovuori shot 82 and 83, respectively.

Wofford led the 19-team field at two-over-par 290.  Charleston Southern was second (291), followed by a three-way tie between Georgia Southern, Western Carolina and Radford at 296.  Campbell opened the event with a team score of 297, one stroke better than Cleveland State.

The 54-hole event continued Monday afternoon on the par-72, 6913-yard Wexford Plantation layout.  Tuesday's final round is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.  Live scoring is available on line at Golfstat.com.
