HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Freshmen Jeremy Nevius and Thomas La Morte tied for 16th place individually and Campbell finished 11th on the team leader board Tuesday at the rain-shortened Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.
Scheduled for 54 holes, the event was shortened to 36 holes due to weather and travel conditions.
Wofford (290-296—586) won team honors at 10-over-par, seven strokes in front of Georgia Southern (296-297—593) and Charleston Southern (291-302—593). Campbell (297-312—609) tied with Austin Peay (304-306—609) for 11th in the 19-school field.
J.T. Poston of Western Carolina (69-73—142) claimed individual honors by one stroke over VCU's Adam Ball (75-68—143).
A native of Metuchen, N.J., Nevius matched his collegiate low with a 3-under-par 69 in Monday's opening round that included four birdies and 13 pars. He shot 80 in the second round that was halted by darkness Monday and concluded in rain and strong winds Tuesday. Nevius finished at 5-over 149 (69-80), as did fellow frosh La Morte (73-76—149), who produced the team's best second-round score in his inaugural collegiate tournament.
Campbell sophomore Craig Hornberger tied for 32nd (73-79—152), while juniors Mikko Lehtovuori (83-77—160) and Alvaro Veiga (82-80—162) finished in ties for 73rd and 82nd, respectively.
The Camels return to action Mar. 2-3 at the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif.
