Men's DMR, Terer earn conference titles to open Big South Indoor meet

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Campbell earned a pair of Big South titles in the men's distance medley relay and the men's 3,000m run on Thursday to open the 2015 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the JDL Fast Track.

Eric Baldwin, Nate Kennedy, Braxton Cline and Amon Terer combined for a time of 10:16.47 in the distance medley relay, Campbell's first time competing in the event on the men's side this season, en route to capturing the gold medals.

In the 3,000m run, Terer improved upon last year's silver medal, bringing home the gold after a quick time of 8:32.92.

In total, Campbell earned five all-conference honors on Thursday, four on the men's side and one for the women as Lilla Juhasz placed second in the long jump.

After six events for the women, Campbell is in seventh place with 11 points; the men earned 43 points on the opening day and trail only Liberty in the overall rankings.

Following is an event-by-event recap of Day 1 of the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Men's 60m Dash (Prelims)
Tashinga Chitambira stormed across the line with the lone time under seven seconds in the preliminary heats, finishing first in 6.93 to advance to tomorrow's finals. 

Women's 60m Dash (Prelims)
Lilla Juhasz was the lone competitor for the Camels in the event, posting a second-place finish in her heat and a fourth-place finish overall in 7.71 to advance to Friday's finals. 

Women's 60m Hurdles (Prelims)
Lilla Juhasz matched her own school record with a time of 8.53 to win her heat and place second overall, more than enough to advance to Friday's eight-athlete finals in the event.

Men's 200m Dash (Prelims)
Lorne Jenkins claimed one of the last two spots in the finals, placing seventh overall in 23.07. Tashinga Chitambira (11th, 23.23) and Jacob Carter (12th, 23.75) turned in strong showing but fell shy of advancing. 

Women's 200m Dash (Prelims)
Lynette Akai and Jocelyn Culbreath advanced to represent Campbell in the finals, placing third (25.28) and sixth (25.64), respectively. Asia Olds also ran for the Camels in the event, finishing in 26.07 to place 16th. 

Men's 400m Dash (Prelims)
Nate Kennedy led the way for Campbell, advancing to the finals after crossing the line in 51.10 to finish sixth overall. Jacob Carter took 13th overall with a time of 53.44.

Women's 400m Dash (Prelims)
Lynette Akai advanced to Friday's finals after placing sixth with a time of 57.30. Jocelyn Culbreath (58.56) and Asia Olds (59.42) also competed for Campbell, placing 10th and 16th, respectively.

Men's 800m Run (Prelims)
Campbell qualified all three of its athletes in the event for Friday's finals. Morgan Timiney, who holds the Camels' best indoor 800m run in school history, took sixth with a time of 1:58.75. Tariq Fullerton was just behind, placing seventh in 1:59.54, and Mason Holt brought home eighth place after crossing the line in 2:00.73. 

Women's 800m Run (Prelims)
Brianna Meyrick (17th, 2:34.42) and Alfreda Hagans (18th, 2:36.08) competed in the preliminary heats, but fell just short of advancing to the finals. 

Men's 3,000m Run
Amon Terer captured the Big South championship in the distance event after placing second in 2014, winning the gold medal with a time of 8:32.92. Lawrence Kipkoech, the school record holder in the event, earned All-Big South honors with a second-place finish in 8:33.29. Evan Darm narrowly missed earning a podium finish, placing fourth overall in 8:37.88, and Jacob Kipserem took 11th place after crossing the line in 8:51.37. 

Men's Distance Medley Relay
Competing in the event for the first time in 2015, the quartet of Eric Baldwin, Nate Kennedy, Braxton Cline and Amon Terer claimed the Big South championship in the event, narrowly edging out Liberty with a time of 10:16.47. 

Women's Distance Medley Relay
The squad of Kaelyn Yoder, Racheal Brown, Daisy Chepchirchir and Kelsey Rea turned in a season-best time of 12:57.20 to finish seventh overall in the relay event.

Men's Long Jump
Lorne Jenkins turned in an all-conference performance, claiming the silver medal in the event after a leap of 22-10 (6.96m). Davian Rhodes placed 11th overall after hitting a distance of 18-1 (5.51m). 

Women's Long Jump
Lilla Juhasz earned all-conference honors in the event with a runner-up finish after a leap of 18-4.25 (5.59m). Sabina Allen also finished in the top 10, placing eighth after a jump of 17-9.75 (5.43m). Rounding out the Campbell quartet in the long jump were Shenelle McKay (12th, 16-10.5/5.14m) and Jaszlyn Jenkins (20th, 16-1.75/4.92m). 

Men's Shot Put
Ethan Mitchell earned two points for Campbell with a seventh-place finish after a heave of 45-9.75 (13.96m).

Women's Pentathlon
Andriel Strachan represented Campbell in the five-event gauntlet, placing ninth overall while recording 2,807 points. Strachan placed seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.63), tied for fifth in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m), ninth in the shot put (28-8.5/8.75m), ninth in the long jump (15-3.25/4.65m) and 12th in the 800m run (2:49.77).
