WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Track and field earned five individual championships and 14 All-Big South performances on the final day of the 2015 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track on Friday afternoon.
As a team, the men placed second overall with 146 points, trailing only overall champion Liberty (235 points). On the women's side, Campbell earned a fifth-place finish as a squad with 60.5 points; Coastal Carolina earned the women's crown with 196.5 total points.
Morgan Timiney starred on Day 2 for the Camels, winning the individual titles in both the men's 800m run and the mile run, while Amon Terer picked up his second championship in as many days by claiming the men's 5,000m crown. Tashinga Chitambira claimed the 60m dash title for the Camels, and Davian Rhodes posted a field championship in the high jump as well.
Terer was named Big South's Most Outstanding Male Track Performer following his individual titles and his performance as a member of the title-winning men's DMR team, and Lawrence Kipkoech was named the Men's Freshman of the Year for his runner-up finishes in the mile, 3,000m run and 5,000m run.
Lorne Jenkins and Kelsey Rea each earned spots on the Big South All-Academic Teams as Campbell's male and female representatives.
Following is an event-by-event recap of Campbell's action on the final day of the 2015 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Men's 60m Dash (Finals)
Tashinga Chitambira earned the Big South championship in the sprint event after posting a time of 6.92, five-hundredths of a second faster than his nearest competitor.
Women's 60m Dash (Finals)
Lilla Juhasz earned All-Big South honors in the sprint event with a silver-medal finish after speeding across the line in 7.70.
Women's 60m Hurdles (Finals)
Lilla Juhasz came up just shy of an all-conference finish, taking fourth overall in one of her signature events with a time of 8.79.
Men's 200m Dash (Finals)
Lorne Jenkins captured fifth place overall after crossing the line in 22.83 as the lone representative for Campbell.
Women's 200m Dash (Finals)
Lynette Akai fell just shy of a podium finish, placing fourth overall after clocking in at 24.99. Jocelyn Culbreath also earned a sixth-place finish in 25.65 for the Camels.
Men's 400m Dash (Finals)
After advancing to the finals on Thursday, Nate Kennedy sped to a time of 51.41 to finish fifth overall.
Women's 400m Dash (Finals)
Lynette Akai shaved two-hundredths of a second off her own school-record time in the event, earning all-conference honors with a second-place finish in 55.84.
Men's 800m Run (Finals)
Morgan Timiney captured the individual championship by nine-hundredths of a second over High Point's Paul O'Donoghue, crossing the line in 1:55.46. Tariq Fullerton (seventh, 1:59.86) and Mason Holt (eighth, 2:03.94) also competed in the finals.
Men's One Mile Run
Morgan Timiney picked up his second individual championship of the day in the mile, beating out fellow Camel Lawrence Kipkoech with a time of 4:14.89. Kipkoech took second overall in 4:16.80, and Eric Baldwin also placed in the top five, taking fourth in 4:17.61. Jacob Kipserem rounded out the Campbell contingent, crossing the line in 4:29.54 to finish 10th overall.
Women's One Mile Run
Kelsey Rea placed 12th overall with a time of 5:23.15 to lead the Campbell duo in the event. Kaelyn Yoder crossed the line in 5:33.46 to earn an 18th-place finish.
Men's 5,000m Run
Campbell swept the podium finishes in the long-distance event, spearheaded by Amon Terer winning his second championship in as many days with a time of 14:33.70. Terer's time narrowly edged out Lawrence Kipkoech, who placed second in 14:33.81. Evan Darm rounded out the All-Big South trio, placing third and clocking in at 14:38.92. Anthony Hughes also competed for the Camels, placing 10th with a time of 15:25.08.
Men's 4x400m Relay
The team of Nate Kennedy, Lorne Jenkins, Morgan Timiney and Jacob Carter narrowly missed an all-conference finish, placing fourth in the 1,600m relay with a time of 3:25.69.
Women's 4x400m Relay
Campbell's squad of Asia Olds, Lynette Akai, Jocelyn Culbreath and Racheal Brown turned in a season-best time of 3:53.25 en route to collecting a third-place finish and All-Big South honors in the 1,600m relay.
Men's High Jump
Davian Rhodes claimed the Big South championship in his signature event, narrowly defeating Liberty's Kyle Wheeler with a mark of 6-9 (2.06m). Rhodes cleared 2.06m on his first leap, while Wheeler needed three jumps to accomplish the feat.
Women's High Jump
Jocelyn Culbreath picked up a third-place showing and All-Big South accolades after reaching a height of 5-5 (1.65m). Shenelle McKay tied for eighth overall after a mark of 5-1 (1.55m), and Andriel Strachan and Sabina Allen each tied for 10th place with leaps of 5-1 (1.55m). McKay cleared 1.55m on her first opportunity, while Strachan and Allen each needed two jumps.
Men's Triple Jump
Lorne Jenkins picked up a silver medal and an all-conference nod after placing second overall and reaching a distance of 49-0.25 (14.94m). Taylor Swanson also competed and posted a mark of 41-3.25 (12.58m) to finish seventh overall.
Women's Triple Jump
Reaching a distance of 39-3 (11.96m), Sabina Allen picked up the bronze medal and All-Big South honors. Also competing for the Camels were Jaszlyn Jenkins (37-10/11.53m) and Shenelle McKay (37-3/11.35m), who placed seventh and 11th, respectively.
