BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell men's tennis will travel to Chapel Hill Wednesday at 2 p.m. for a matinee match against the No. 6 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Camels opened their 2015 spring season finishing 1-2 at the VCU 4-1 Invitational. Campbell dropped its first two matches against Belmont (4-1) and Georgetown (3-2), but rebounded with a win to close out the invitational against Norfolk State (4-1).
Sophomore Nicolas Rakitin leads the way for the Camels with a 2-1 singles record. After dropping his first match of the season to Belmont's Marko Lovrinovic (4-6, 2-6), Rakitin has given up only one point in his last two matches (24-1).
North Carolina (6-1) is coming off its first loss of the season, a 4-3 loss on the road to No. 8 ranked Illinois. Sophomore Ronnie Schneider (4-0) and senior Oystein Steiro(6-0) both claim undefeated 2015 singles dual records for the Tar Heels.
Schneider, paired with both freshman Robert Kelly, and sophomore Jack Murray, has a combined 6-0 doubles record; Steiro has also posted a perfect doubles record in 2015, claiming a 4-0 record paired with Kelly, and senior Esben Hess-Olesen.
The Camels will return to action Friday at 2 p.m. as they host Wingate at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
